Calling for Ducks Stories
In honor of the festivities at Face Off Fest we at Anaheim Calling are wondering about some of your favorite Ducks memories. If you aren't a Ducks fans, then share the pain you've experienced at the hands of the Ducks. The ones that get the best/most feedback will be organized into a poll. We encourage fun and creative stories, and if at all possible, keep it clean. Afterwards Arthur and I will share our personal favorites as well as the winning memory in a more traditional format. So, let's hear those stories.

Backpack
It was 1993, as everyone knows The Mighty Ducks was a huge hit and everyone in Southern California was all about Goldberg!
So for Christmas, my parents got me a backpack as I had just started 1st or 2nd grade, I can’t remember. Anyways, the backpack was awesome! It was that nice deep purple with dark green trim everywhere, and on the top just above the pen pouch was the greatest logo ever, our Anaheim Mighty Ducks logo. Btw, no matter what anyone says, that logo will forever be number 1, no jersey will look better, nothing even comes close to the purple and green! Alright back to my story, I was about 6 or 7 years old and I had just gotten a cat. This mangy long haired grey looking thing, his name was Scooter, and he was a bastard. Well, it was a dark gloomy day in Placentia, Ca and something was in the air. What was it you ask? Cat piss. From where? My god damn closet! Even then, my backpack spent most of its time in the closet rather than near a desk. Oh well. Worried, I most definitely was. I rushed up the stairs into my X-Men wallpapered room and saw it….my new Mighty Ducks backpack sitting in a pool of the most disgusting cat piss I have ever smelled. I began to turn around to look for that bastard of a cat, and there he was sitting in the doorway with a smug fucking smile on his face…..

I got escorted out of the Angels stadium for touching the stanely cup.
After the Ducks took Lord Stanely in 2007, they had it on display at the Angels stadium during an angel game. You got to get your picture taken with it.
I was born in Toronto, but grew up in southern cali. I went to this event with my parents, because we all know how many hockey fans there are around these parts, and my parents like hockey and wanted their pictures taken (mostly for the sake of sending the pics back to Toronto to rub it in their faces……..the picture has palm trees in the background……thanks team 07 for these awesome bragging rights) with the Cup.
The line was long. Really fucking long. We didnt get to see any of the ball game, thats how long the line was.
Almost our turn, I see a sign asking people to be quick and prompt and to not touch the Cup. I urge my parents to go in front of me, because I am going to touch it.
My mom shaking her head and wondering “why?”
My dad who fully understands my need to do this, is all for it.
My parents each have their turn, next is mine.
I walk up to Lord Stanley and proceed to rub it down like it’s Elizabeth Hurleys naked body (she an all time fav. of mine, her accent gets my blood flowing). Mission accomplished.
Security then grabs me. One guy for each arm and tells me I am no longer aloud to be in the stadium.
My father and I proudly walking to the exit, with my mom trailing behind, hanging her head, and wondering what the hell is wrong with us.
We then get our pictures a week later via some website. I thought that maybe I wouldnt have one. But there it is, me touching the Stanely cup. I ordered it.
I will have a buddy help me scan this pic for proof of story.

Being a fan since 1998
I had to suffer through years and years of being teased for being a Disney sports fan and not having a championship for my Ducks. I witnessed the Ducks come so close to winning and was happy to have them reach the Cup in 03 and was heartbroken in the 06 playoffs. I stayed with the Ducks through the losing and heartbreak I was able to see my once mighty Ducks win a Stanly Cup and see them competative year in and year out. I remember hugging my 3 month old cats (none of my friends like hockey) and crying when I got to see the Ducks hold up the Cup. It was a dream come true.

I am an old man ( 41 ) ,that remembers the year the Mighty Ducks were brought into the league. Now seeing as i’m from Anaheim and been a lifelong Angels, and Rams fan having the ducks represent my town was awesome.I’m a grad of good ol Anaheim High School, what more could i want right? Well i ended up moving to no Cal for a brief stint and ended up going to see my first Ducks game at the shark tank, now this was back when the sharks sucked and the ducks sucked even more, and the Kings had Gretzky so i too liked the Kings ( they were actually very good ) also. Alas, the Ducks were from my hometown damnit and when after 2 periods they were losing and i had gone outside the arena to smoke i seem to have forgotten where i was because me and my Anaheim hat almost proceeded to get beat to a pulp by several shark fans because while they were clowning me for being a disney duck fan i had to talk trash back only i was alone, but security came to my rescue so i wasn’t sent to the hospital that night and got to stay and watch my ducks lose. By the way i hated the Mighty Ducks color scheme at first but then it really grew on me and i wish it was back

One more thing.....
Can anyone else remember feeling like the Ducks were gonna be privvy to the best hockey tandem in the history of the game? I’m talking Kariya and Teemu, together they were freaking awesome.I can only sit here and dream of the what if’s had they been in their primes and together here now, the ducks could maybe have been the first ever undefeated NHL team………ok maybe not that great but damn good nevertheless

Well, I'll tell you why I'm a fan
As my handle and avatar might indicate, my #1 team is and always will be the Washington Capitals. That’s where I live and that’s the first hockey team I ever saw in person. However, it’s nice to have a second team in the other conference.
In 1993 I was looking forward to my senior year of college and working on lining up a job with the Disney company, so when they got an expansion hockey team, it was like someone had put their chocolate in my peanut butter.
When the Ducks used their first draft pick on Guy Hebert — who had gone to the same college I was about to graduate from — my allegiance was sealed. I got to see him play at Arrowhead Pond just once, when visiting a friend in L.A. It’s still one of my favorite sports experiences.
"Camaraderie, that's what the Washington Capitals are all about."
