TRADE BAIT!!!!
This is Anaheim Calling to the Hockey World. Welcome to a new segment we will be doing here at Anaheim Calling, TRADE BAIT. I love trade talk, and this segment is meant to give fans of the Ducks a chance to play GM a little and create your own trades. There are some rumors flying around that got the wheels in my head turning. First, there was a comment by a Jeff on an OC Register blog post about Bobby Ryan's contract situation that called for a solution to the Hiller/Giguere controversy in order to free up the necessary money to re-sign Bobby. Then, Puck Daddy detailed the struggles of one Cristobal Huet. It's becoming clearer that the Hawks have a legitimate keeper problem on their hands, not to mention the scariest salary cap situation in the league, and the Ducks have two playoff tested men between the pipes. We at Anaheim Calling are interested in the trade YOU would organize to handle this problem. Keep in mind that the Blackhawks can send Huet to the minors thereby eliminating his cap hit, but still eating his salary. Try to keep it realistic.

Giguerre+Philadelphias First Rounder
for
Seabrook or Barker and Prospect Billy Sweatt (Just because I like his name)
Obviously, Chicago would have to demote Huet to eat Giguerres salary but they now would have a proven netminder. Chicago would get a late first rounder as compensation for this. The Ducks would receive Seabrook or Barker, both who are absolute stud defenseman. They already are where we hope and pray our young D-men will be in 2 or 3 years. So why not just insert one in onto the top line with the good ole Captain and shake things up?
We also need more players with kick ass names on our team.
My girlfriend loves players on the Ducks with cool names, for some reason she thinks Bobby is a sweet name, but c’mon has anyone ever noticed he talks like this guy from 50 First Dates….

I mean c’mon Billy ‘Fuckin’ Sweatt!!!! Could you imagine the sweet intro’s for this guy?? I’m doing it in my head already!!!
Billy ‘The Armpit’……..SWEAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTT
That is what I want our team to be like.
I deliver high-quality H2O
March is pretty far away, but assuming we can’t move Giguere at the deadline, I say we put HIller on the table and squeeze Chicago. He’s not as proven as Giguere, but he’s got enough upside for them to risk a mid 20’s player.
So I say something like HIller and Wisniewski for Keith and Byfuglien (with assorted picks and prospects for whoever feels like they’re getting a raw deal). We take Byfuglien to sweeten the deal, but everyone else involved is expiring. This doesn’t help us sign Ryan, but it certainly helps us rebuild in the absence of Teemu/Scotty, assuming we re-sign Keith and Byfuglien fits in well on the third line and power play.
I can’t see Chicago taking Giguere’s salary for next year, but you never know. I’m sure we’d be forced to take two big 3M contracts in return in that case, maybe Versteeg and Byfuglien. That doesn’t help us re-sign Ryan much either.

I think the overlooked situation is Washington. With Crosby’s hands all over the Cup, I have to think that Ovie is getting a little impatient. The Caps have firepower, and apparently Ovechkin can turn anybody into a top line center, I’m looking at you Morrison. But what they are lacking is a legit goalie. Varlamov clearly has the goods, but he’s still young and a little inconsistent. More importantly, Theodore has had back issues, and gave a less than inspiring performance in last year’s playoffs. If the Caps want a real shot at the Cup they could be convinced to part with one of the promising young scorers on their second line. I’m thinking something like this: Giguere and Philly’s first rounder, for Theodore’s expiring contract, Brooks Laich or Nic Backstrom (probably Laich), and a 3rd round pick.
This deal provides space in the form of losing Theodore’s 4.5 million, and potentially letting go of Selanne and Koivu, since Laich can co-anchor a second line with Joffrey Lupul and maybe Deschamps or some other prospect. Additionally, losing the $5+ million from Koivu and Selanne walking means we save about $10 million to be split between Hiller and Ryan. Laich is signed through next year so that buys us more time to work out his contract situation and value. Finally, the Caps get a Conn Smythe and Cup winning goalie who can backstop them for the next two playoff runs while Varlamov refines his game.
I really don’t care but please do not get rid of Ryan for anything, I think this kid will be very special ala Teemu or Kariya (in his youth )
heh heh. Right now, he’s affordable. And with Getzlaf as our future captain only taking 5M, we could sucker Ryan into an affordable deal the way we did with Perry. But if Ryan goes on a tear this year, he might be asking for that Crosby money. Doubt the Ducks would ever spend that.

So, with that Cam Ward injury (and Carolina actually being the worst team in the league right now…)
Jiggy? I don’t know that he’d want to go there, but I’m pretty sure he’d be their number one.

Tough one. We all assume Jiggy’s list has the major Canadian teams on it, but going to Montreal or Toronto would mean going to a non-playoff team. Maybe his list has one column for Eastern Canadian teams and one for contenders…
