Open Gameday Recap Thread: Stars @ Ducks
ARTHUR:
It was an inconsistent effort from your Anaheim Ducks tonight at Honda Center. The Stars won the game 4-2 with an empty net goal in the final minute, the last of 25 consecutive minutes when Anaheim was actually contesting the result.
Wisniewski returned to a ho-hum but minute munching performance, HIller pitched himself out of trouble (but probably also out of an easy start next game) and the top two lines improved after a little shuffling.
Leave your condolences below.

I like Getz, Perry, Loops for first line, and Selanne, Koivu , Ryan for second. That match up seemed to cause a spark.
Wiz is sketchy. I cannot believe he was named first star.
we lost again from lack of effort. fuck.
hooked on quack

Are you sure it just wasn’t the game clock hitting the halfway point? That seems to spark the team more than any lineup change, then we just get fooled by temporary success whenever the hell “Ducks gametime” starts.

Absolutely agree with Earl here. The team was just painfully sloppy in the 1st and 2nd. In the 3rd they had the legs moving and attacked the offensive zone much better. Maybe Carlyle should bring an alarm clock to the locker room to make sure the guys are up before the puck drops.
I agree here too.
In fact, I’m getting overly disgusted with the constant line changing. I’d really like them to suffer through a few shitty games to figure out some chemistry and break through this wall of scoring drought.

Well, that’s already accomplished — and I’m not even sure it’s a scoring drought so much as a competence drought — Ducks hardly even play in the offensive end, even at moments when they’ve got a clear path, they manage to flub a pass. Or pass to a nearby corner. Or pass to a nearby opposition player.
In the defensive zone, they’re a general disaster — a lot of shifts I hold my breath and pray that the puck somehow gets passed outside the blueline.

I think it’s important we get more than (at least?) one shot after entering the zone. That’s what they should be concentrating on in practice.

Yeah, I like Lupul and Ryan on the second based on the way they played tonight. I see Carlyle sticking with that until it stops working.
Wiz maybe came back too early, but who knew Carlyle would give that many minutes to a game-time decision.

I had to double check just now, but Artyukhin didn’t take any penalties tonight. That’s a nice little bright side to the game.
He was nearly scratched, but Carter couldn’t go. If he’d taken a penalty, it would’ve been his ass. He looked really concerned on the Niskanen play, and I guarantee you he was worried about his next gamececk, not Niskanen.

There were some bright spots.
It was nice to see Ryan Getzlaf look a little more like Ryan Getzlaf.
I was saying boo-urns.
If anyone looked like themselves for the full 60 minutes, we might have won that game.
