Open Gameday Recap Thread Maple Leafs @ Ducks
ARTHUR:
The Ducks gave the Toronto Maple Leafs their first win of the season at the Honda Center tonight. The worst Maple Leafs team ever (by starting record) scored five power play goals, the most scored on the Ducks ever. A question for this recap thread? Will Carlyle pay for this lack of effort to start the season? Not should he, but WILL he be fired?

I think if this keep up for the next 10 he is definitely out the door. Obviously the team needs a shakeup of some kind and I just don’t see them dealing any of our big name players (unless we can unload Giguere somehow).

Yeah, if the Giguere injury lasts a few more games, we definitely can’t move him now. Carlyle canceled practice today, so maybe he’s trying EVERYTHING. His job’s definitely on the line for these next few games before the four game road trip.
Who would you want to take the reins, though? Someone new? Brown? Farrish?

Brown or Farrish. At least for the rest of this year. Transitioning with a new coach during the year won’t yield good results.
But I really really hope the team starts to turn the corner so Carlyle doesn’t see the chopping block.

Yeah, I think that’s the way to go. Though, if the team doesn’t pick up, I’m currently watching the Red Wings stink it up. Maybe they fire Babcock and we get Babcock back.

I’m not sure if this mess is really Carlye’s fault. Although I agree that change of some sort is needed, I’m not sure firing Carlye will really help the Ducks that much.

Well, the question isn’t really SHOULD. I don’t think anyone agrees that a coach SHOULD be fired because the team is bad. Problem is, for a GM, that’s the only option available. It’s much harder to do anything to your players en masse.
It’s mostly ceremonial, like a veto or confidence vote, in that it rarely addresses the problem directly. But when a roster shows that it won’t listen to the coach, it forces the GM’s hand. It would SUCK to lose Carlyle, but this squad doesn’t really seem to care that his job is at stake.

Yeah, I saw that on the HF Boards, and I was signing on to post it. I don’t think it’s a shakeup move. Beleskey took an ugly hooking call against Toronto and Marchant had his second serious spill of the season. Of our PTO’s this year, it’d be more of a shakeup if we signed Cullimore.
