***Carter Out Four Weeks***
THE TELETYPE:
According to J.P. Hoornstra, X-rays have revealed that Ryan Carter's injury, previously thought to be a simple bruise, is actually a fracture. The fourth line center will miss an additional four weeks.
The Ducks have managed the hole in the roster by rotating centers, starting the previously waived and since loaned Erik Christensen, and calling up MacGregor Sharp from Anaheim's ECHL affiliate in Bakersfield.

I swear, this guy just catches all the bad luck.
I think the Ducks need him more than they realize. Sure he plays a small role in the whole scheme of things, but he was becoming a huge part of their ability to kill penalties (any help we can get is huge) and I think he worked well alongside Mike Brown. Although, I’ve always hoped Carlyle would keep him up there with Selanne because I thought THEY worked well together too.
It hurts Anaheim – no matter how painful they are to watch with or without the guy. He was one of the few working hard on both ends of the ice.

I think the Ducks know how much they need him. They wouldn’t be comfortable putting Marchant on the trading block if they didn’t know Carter and maybe Nokelainen were ready to be the future of their defensive centers. And I think Carter was one of their most consistent players, maybe behind Koivu, who carried more ice time throughout the season.
Sadly, with him out a whole month, I think this changes our trade targets. Helene Elliott targeted a trade before December 1st, and they’d be putting a lot of faith in sharp if we moved Marchant and didn’t get a center in return.

Are we still thinking that Marchant is the target though? I can think of a more inconsistent players who may be worth more. Lupul perhaps?

Haha, you and Daniel. I’m not sure what Lupul’s worth. If we’d kept him on the top line to passenger some points, we could probably get something for him. And back injury or spasms or whatever are always bad news. We’d probably end up with a checker or an equally bad contract if we moved Lupul.

I’m with you on how important Carter is. I’m on mobile so I can’t link, but the OC register was talking about how badly we needed a solid checking line like we had with Sammy, Moen, and Rob. I think Carter was a key piece in that, Brown too. Losing him hits us hard.
I do want to trade Lupul though. He just isn’t fitting in despite his improved defensive play. You can’t pay a third line winger 4 million.
