Yeah, everyone did speed back then. Hank Aaron tried it on a double header, but decided it made him too nauseated. He’s never ethically condemned anyone who did greenies back then, though, making it hypocritical of him to say anything about Barry Bonds on an ethical level.

Independent studies have since showed that greenies don’t directly affect in-game performance. Though it’s hard to take that assessment seriously when their primary purpose was to keep you focused for night games, double headers, etc.
