***Calder Out, Beleskey In***
THE TELETYPE:
Kyle Calder will be out two to four weeks with an eye injury incurred during practice, and the Ducks have called up Matt Beleskey from Toronto to take his place in the lineup.
After injuries on their last road trip, Beleskey was unavailable due to flu like symptoms, while Calder was unavailable while Bakersfield played a series in Alaska. Since then, Beleskey was moved to the Toronto Marlies, and the Ducks made an additional call up from Bakersfield in MacGregor Sharp.

I’m probably alone here…but I think losing Calder really hurts us right now. He was one of the few willing to sacrifice himself in front of the net (which is obvious by his injury, I’m assuming). He played a huge part in screening for Boynton’s goal during the last game and he seems to be making that same pesky havoc that Perry used to bring on a regular basis.
Plus, with the way things were gelling for everyone, I hope this small role change isn’t too painful.

Well, Calder got hit in the face with a puck that deflected off a stick. It happened in practice, and I don’t think we lose anything. If anything, we gain because Beleskey is young and still willing to do the things that Calder was doing. So, a young prospect gets valuable experience doing a job that anybody with a little size can do.
I’m just wondering what Christensen has to do to get anyone to remember how well he was playing before we shipped him off…again.

We definitely lose some wily veteran skills in a switch to Beleskey, but the younger guy can probably get rougher in the corners. And if the intention is to put Lupul in there when he gets back, it’s probably good we move away from depending on a Calder-type player on the third line.
