Open Gameday Recap Thread Penguins vs. Ducks

DANIEL:

The Ducks continue to disappoint this year as they dropped another home game, this time to the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Penguins.  The Ducks failed to keep the front of the net clear, and as a result Hiller couldn't stop 3 different Pittsburgh point shots.  The Koivu line did break through for a goal tonight, and Perry continued his strong bid for a spot on Canada's Olympic team by potting two more goals.  The Ducks have continued to improve their play, but key mistakes are costing them much needed points.

I just checked . . .

And Daniel’s a true Ducks fan. He dropped Hiller, and picked up Justin Williams (perhaps to jinx the Kings). The jinx is lifted!!! Huzzaaaaah!

I shifted the highlights to the top

Daniel, I shifted the highlights in the post to the top because the AP photo eventually disappears. Not sure when the NHL film disappears. I know the black box is ugly. But let’s try it this way first.

That last Pens goal was really disheartening

It felt like the last bit of life just got drained from the Honda Center. On a positive note, Boynton looked like he sucked less (at least in the first period).

I was saying boo-urns.

It’s good to know he’s working on his sucking. I really think he’s just the kind of guy that refuses to come off the scratch (which I find unprofessional unless you’re top flight talent), so maybe he’ll settle in now that he’s a regular.

Disappoint may be a harsh term to lay on the Ducks for this one. I really think they played a strong game. The way Anaheim moves the puck down low and crashes the net is something the Pens will hopefully be a little more prepared for on 11/16. I don’t think I’d necessarily say luck had much to do with it, but Pittsburgh certainly had a bounce or two. The Pittsburgh power play? Well, that’s another story all together. No one to work with right now.

Good game folks. See you guys again in two weeks.

In the end, the Ducks didn’t do a good enough job in front of their own net. The Pens got some good screens up and we just didn’t clear the front of the crease. I think that ended up being the difference in the game.
