Open Gameday Thread Ducks @ Wild
Anaheim Ducks at Minnesota Wild, Dec 4, 2009 5:00 PM PST
ARTHUR:
As he did for most of the game last night, Carlyle will have to account for the absence of Selanne. Last we heard, Chipchura was still slated to join the Ducks at home against Ottawa, so we shouldn't expect to see him in St. Paul tonight. Dan Sexton, however, was playing with Manitoba in Peoria, and may be able to make puck drop.
I broke down Dan Sexton after McNab signed him, but I also reviewed his performance against the Reign on Halloween, where he shook off a couple of ECHL pasting checks. For those unwilling to read my lengthy breakdown: Sexton is a small all-purpose forward who is creative on offense and responsible on defense. However, as he hasn't gotten the chance to fully develop his special teams play at the AHL level and has only recently developed his fleetness of foot, he will probably see limited playing time tonight. It is also worth noting, as Carlyle loves chemistry, that Big Sexy logged almost 20 games on a successful ECHL line with MacGregor Sharp.
I take full responsibility for the loss last game, as I benched both Turco and Richards on my fantasy team. I will redeem myself tonight by starting Ryan against my opponent, who is starting Backstrom. Holy vengeance be mine.
Not sure if the stream will work for tonight's game. I might Slingbox it. Post any lineup updates and info in the comments.
F all of our L's!
-The new gameday signoff courtesy of Floyd Gondoll. Consider it the 'break a leg' version of 'Go Ducks!' except for the fact that, as Ducks fans, we fully expect to see someone break a leg or get crosschecked in the face by Gary Suter while Dave Karpa sits on the bench eating a ham sandwich.

I'm Slingboxing it
as the Gophers game is delayed broadcast right after the Wild game. Apparently there is no stream. Ask me any questions you think would be more clear on tv than radio. Lupul in.

Oh and Chipchura wears 28

You guys are probably listening on radio. But Chipchura is centering the fourth line, second line is sexton, koivu and Ryan. Lupul’s on the first line. And Beleskey on the third. Looks like Sharp is scratched

They lifted the Center Ice blackout

Chipchura looks pretty good, but he’s operating under the misinformation that Parros has hands
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:15 PM PST reply actions
and right after I say that Parros almost smears the bagel for brown

Lupul apparently didn’t score, but put his stick up as though he did
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:16 PM PST reply actions
it looked like it went in. He absolutely roofed it. I would’ve put my arm up, too.

overhead view was unmistakable

He hit the white support bar on the top of the net, and it made a deadened ping, so everyone thought it went off the cross bar.

sexton is doing well on a second line. Lot of reponsibility for the kid.

Got that one

before the game
Darby said the Wild would want to impose their size on us. Clutterbuck is taking that to heart
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:24 PM PST reply actions
The Wild are apparently undefeated in regulation when they wear their ’79 Roseau Rams knockoff jerseys

lots of hugging. Very Tyson Holyfield or recently Mosley Margarito

I guess you beat me by a few seconds. Guess that’s the same as me beating you by EIGHT MINUTES

no problem. feel free to break it down for the radio kids. I’ll wait until someone has questions. My slingbox feed is slowing down my internet anyway

Okay. I'm declaring it...
Wisniewski has the flu. He has no idea where the puck is going to be when it’s coming right at him in open ice. I don’t care if Eminger is missing vertebrae. We need to get Wisniewski a rest.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:35 PM PST reply actions
Some of it is sloppy play, like some bad communication between Marchant and Festerling holding a puck in at the line. But Wisniewski letting a pass breeze two feet away from his foot is unacceptable.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:37 PM PST up reply actions
Festerling is toeing the hooking/holding line. Brookbank is double covering, not trusting him.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:41 PM PST reply actions
that’s actually a bad thing. He needs to trust Festerling. If Festerling can’t handle his man, then Brookbank should play a zone and the passing lanes. He can’t jump in like that. He’s playing about as well as he did last game. It’s impressive because he comes in cold and does this.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:44 PM PST up reply actions
but brett isnt play bad at all.
there was a break opportunity where festerling did the right thing and jammed havlat right into the boards causing a turnover and getting us posession.
time to drive home to the ladies house….lets go 405 north!
should be back on during the 3rd
I deliver high-quality H2O
He wasn’t playing poorly for the majority of the game, but he’s getting his stick into that midsection and he was basically hooking and holding his man along the boards when Brookbank came across. It’s kind of okay if Festerling can’t physically handle his guy as long as he’s pushing him outside, Brookbank can compensate. But Brookbank cannot push both rearguards into one corner of the ice just because he’s scared Festerling can’t handle it.
Have fun.

they just interviewed bobby and he has a HUGE blood stain in his right eye.
creepy looking

Oh are you on gamecenter or center ice, too? If so, moratorium on play by play calls in here.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:50 PM PST up reply actions
If Anybody is looking for a stream heres one
Yes i’m a wild fan..thought i would share so you guys could view the game if you can’t for any reason.
Good Luck the rest of the way.
P.S Parros is a creepy looking dude
Awesome. thanks TonyO. I keep telling people how nice Minnesotans are.
So, yes. Now official moratorium on play by play calls. No offense Waterboy, but I was starting to annoy myself.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 5:53 PM PST up reply actions
I’ll reciprocate by noting that I’m a Minnesota hockey fan, longtime Gophers fan, especially.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 6:06 PM PST up reply actions
I’m actually waiting for the Gophers broadcast after this game is over.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 6:07 PM PST up reply actions
Great. A goal the second I turn my Slingplayer back on, from the guy with H1N1
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:00 PM PST reply actions
apparently he’s recovered to the tune of two consecutive goal-scoring efforts. Maybe we should strategically distribute the swine flue in our locker room
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:15 PM PST up reply actions
for some reason, reading that, I hear the foppish voice of Tucan Sam
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:16 PM PST up reply actions
Somebody wants to make the highlight reel.
And his name is Bobby Ryan
I was saying boo-urns.
by Floyd Gondoli on Dec 4, 2009 7:19 PM PST up reply actions
It’s my holy vengeance. Lupul was denied the trick, but only because it is rightfully Ryan’s.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:22 PM PST up reply actions
Why not take the bad penalty and let the fluke-y goal in last period. Why the hollywood ending (in danger of becoming the Italian ending)?
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:31 PM PST reply actions
just like last time. Why do we go to Minnesota anymore?
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:32 PM PST up reply actions
It’s like the team just doesn’t try anymore in the 3rd quarter
The Big Red Machine V.2 is coming this Fall 2009. Go Halos!
we are coming off back to backs.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:34 PM PST up reply actions
not that they’ve done great in the 3rd this year, just saying there’s an excuse tonight
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:35 PM PST up reply actions
These are big points? Some homerism is delusional. I don’t think even Hayward would say big points at this point.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:36 PM PST reply actions
Midwest guys are pretty bad generally, but that’s pretty bad. I also can’t believe this officiating crew calls that.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:39 PM PST up reply actions
Mikko Koivu is a one-man wrecking crew.
Possibly showing brother Saku up for not signing with the Wild?
I don’t think Saku was ever going to Minnesota. He said as much when he was still at Montreal, didn’t want to mess with what his brother had going.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:49 PM PST up reply actions
this might be a little TOO exciting
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:52 PM PST up reply actions
Damn it. Ryan should’ve gotten a shot
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Dec 4, 2009 7:53 PM PST reply actions
I wonder if this is what they had in mind when they gave SBN access to all these photos…
But I sure do love silly captions slapped on to hockey players. That could be a blog all by itself.
