Ducks Sign Randy Carlyle to 1 Year Extension
http://ducks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=546301&navid=DL|ANA|home
I'm flabbgergasted. I don't know what to say. Somehow, somewhere, Ducks management has decided that giving another year to Randy Carlyle is a good idea. I don't know how Earl is going to take this news, what with his crusade and all, and I'm not sure how this works out for the rookies. Maybe the Ducks will have many more bowling adventures next year.

And announced just after I posted this, and much better news, David McNab was also re-upped for a year:
I like this one
I don’t like the first one. I too fail to understand why they would re-up Carlyle.

Name a better coach that is available?
Firing a coach in the NHL is as much about getting the players to listen to a new face and voice as anything, and in that sense, letting the assistant coach finish the season is always an option that may achieve the same result you were hoping for in a full change without creating a burdensome period of adjustment.
AND if you’re going to invite someone to name better coaches, I think you should start by stating your own understanding of the coaching landscape. If you just want to talk about when Boudreau might get fired or what renewing Carlyle might do for the chances of landing Paul MacLean, then you should state those positions. Someone who actually knows coaches might mistakenly come on here and try to have a discussion with you about how the wave of young former player coaches, even in midseason replacement gigs, makes young guys like Dallas Eakins always an interesting bone to throw out for discussion. If you just want to talk about Boudreau, or even MacTavish then that discussion might not be for you.
Also, “better” coach doesn’t really mean anything if you don’t state a position. Newell Brown had a “better” pedigree than Carlyle, and there are plenty of young coaches today that are performing “better” than experienced head coaches.

Last I checked Paul MacLean and Dallas Eakins had jobs hence not “available”. Way to quote me and then fumble around for 300 words trying to insult me when you missed the point right off the fucking bat. In all of you’re mindless name dropping do you actually believe any of the guys you mentioned are a better fit? Obviously you have a hard on for MacLean because of his playing career and the fact he was our assistant coach when we went on that great playoff run in 03 but what makes you think he’s even available….. especially mid season? And what makes you think they couldnt fire Calyle right this fucking second and give MacLean a call when and if he ever becomes available?
there are plenty of young coaches today that are performing "better" than experienced head coaches.
I dont disagree that a young coach couldnt do a better job but I would go with Kevin Dineen over the names you chose because of his experience with Getzlaf and Perry and the fact he was voted the AHL’s best coach in 05/06. Your boy Eakins is a minor league all star with no such credential.
My post was simply stating that signing him to an extension is completely meaningless. They can fire his ass whenever they want. My question was a very simple who THAT IS AVAILABLE would be a better fit.

I open by noting
letting the assistant coach finish the season is always an option that may achieve the same result you were hoping for in a full change without creating a burdensome period of adjustment.then I say
what renewing Carlyle might do for the chances of landing Paul MacLean,i.e. extending Carlyle’s contract into NEXT YEAR affecting MACLEAN who interviewed this past year and has made his intentions to get into a head coaching job in one of the ensuing off-seasons evident.
Way to draw your literacy into question over 300 words.

I didn’t finish reading your comment, by the way, since you didn’t have the courtesy to read mine.
