***Boynton Waived; Selanne Playing***
THE TELETYPE:
The Ducks have a pair of interesting roster moves going into tonight's game. First, according to The OC Register the team placed defenseman Nick Boynton on waivers. The defenseman was signed to a 1.5M/1yr contract this past offseason, but has seen himself frequently scratched in the month of January, a successful month for the team.
Second, according to Dan Wood, writing for the Ducks' Official site, Teemu Selanne is ready to play tonight. The veteran winger would return in the middle of his estimated 2-6 week recovery schedule after suffering a broken jaw from a deflected puck in a January 13th game against Boston at Honda Center.
UPDATE: To make room for Teemu, forward Matt Beleskey was sent down to the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL. Despite a complicated affiliate situation this season, the Ducks had managed to find AHL placement for Beleskey twice before. This will be his first stint below the AHL level.

Wow
Just wow… Didn’t see this coming. I figured there were changes a’comin’ but I didn’t expect this. So who comes up on D? Do we just forget about the healthy scratch and go with Brookbank, Niedermayer, Festerling, Whiteny, Wiz and Eminger? Doesn’t seem outrageous.
Hey, somebody buy Teemu one of these. He should be fine.
I was saying boo-urns.
tough for Boynton. This was his chance to prove he was the same guy who signed that 3M/yr contract. The Ducks need the money after picking up those extra gamechecks, and they can certainly call up Mikkelson and put him on the scratch. He’s got consistency issues but he’s definitely got a better toolkit than Festerling.

Was Boynton really that bad this year? The Ducks are obviously looking to free up some cash. I always liked Nick Bonyton’s game when he was w/ the Bruins, but he isn’t that same player anymore. I’m wondering if the B’s will take a run at him for short money.

Boynton wasn’t bad for the money, but we have 500K guys who ended up being better options. He just didn’t fit in. You could say he was trying to do too much, always trying to be the one to make the first pass and never quite executing it well, but it really just came down to salary and the fact that Steve Eminger is Carlyle’s boy and got a second crack at the depth chart. Boynton’s still got that shot, though. It’s a little tougher to get off out West, but he might be good depth for the B’s.

Boynton was unimpressive
Especially for a former first round draft pick. He was never so bad that we cursed his name for weeks at a time, but I have to say I was disappointed with him overall. Also, dressing a housecat in a helmet and 4 skates is a better option than calling up Brendan Mikkelson. That guy is TRBL.
I was saying boo-urns.
