Interest in Cheechoo?
Jonathan Cheechoo was placed on waivers a couple of days ago. I know he's been struggling the past few years, but this guy was a bona fide Duck Killer. I didn't see a lot of Ottawa games so I don't know if he's as bad as his 5+9=14 stat line. The -13 is equally unimpressive. Still, the guy has a 37 and 56 goal season on his resume. Additionally, he, Chipchura and Marchant could from a line in the NHL with the most "ch"s. I will call it the Pokemon line. Is it possible that Cheechoo as a third liner earning some space, who might be desperate after being put on waivers and facing the minors, would be an interesting pick up for the Ducks? Just trying to get everyone's opinion on this. I am at least curious.

He’s just in the AHL, right? He hasn’t gone re-entry? Maybe they’ll trade us for Blake. He makes a little more salary, but one year less, and he’s physical enough to actually play on a third line.

Could such a thing really happen? It would be nice to get rid of Blake. He hasn’t been impressive at all. I think being forced to be an energy guy in our system might be good for Cheechoo.
he’s a small fast guy, marginally more useful in the east than Cheech. but he’s tied up for one year longer, so I doubt they take that risk.

You’re kidding right? We already have one useless, over payed player in Blake. Why do we need another. Plus due to Carlye’s love for anyone that will drop the gloves (Bodie), we already don’t have enough room for both Beleskey and Sexton as it is.
well, we can’t actually acquire Jonathan Cheechoo, there’s no money for that this year, so I don’t know exactly what Daniel means. But in a trade for Blake, we could get a year off our Giguere sentence and have a player who can play Bottom 6 in the West.

Originally I was thinking on re-entry waivers, but it looks like Ottawa just isn’t going to bring him back. At which point, I could get behind a Jason Blake for Cheechoo trade. But I think that would cash strap the Sens. Maybe it was a pipe dream, but a fun one for a while. I mean can you guys imagine how excited I would be to have a dude of Native American descent on the team?
Ahem

Kyle Chipchura (according to nativehockey.com). I found that while I was trying to remember the name of Robin Big Snake. What a great name. I think he’d pay for himself in jersey sales alone.
Also, if you’re really pining for a second Native American player, wouldn’t you rather have Sheldon Souray?

haha, good catch.
I don’t see why Daniel would get excited about it. Mi’kmaqs basically invented this game.

it would be like me getting excited about a Filipino stick fighting or knife fighting, or some non-combat sport that Filipinos invented
