***Whitney Officially Named To Team USA***
THE TELETYPE:
Team USA has officially named Ryan Whitney to the US Olympic roster for this month's games in Vancouver. The American blueline has two major injuries in Paul Martin, who was recovering from a broken arm when he was named to the team in January, and MIke Komisarek, who went down with a shoulder injury recently and officially withdrew from the games yesterday. Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason was also added to the squad.
Helene Elliott of the LA Times previously reported that Whitney lost out his spot to Martin, and that Team USA may have named Martin knowing that they could replace him with Whitney if the Devils blueliner wasn't healthy in time.

there was a headline on the ticker at the game last night that said something like “Whitney, Wisniewski candidates to replace injured defensemen on Team USA.” CK turned to me and said, Wisniewski? Is that true? like our medal hopes died with that announcement. haha. I pointed out that normally adding a Wisniewski wouldn’t be so bad, but with the games played at GM Place (or Canada Hockey Place or whatever) they would be using NHL sized ice I’d heard. In that case, might as well leave the shooting to Suter and Raffy and add some size guys.

Good for Whitney
For a team with so many Olympians, you would think the Ducks should actually be good.
I was saying boo-urns.
I think it’s more a commentary on the current state of US hockey. There aren’t too many young US born defenseman with intl experience that blow whit out of the water.

hey everyone, im a new guy
hey everyone, just wanted to say i think whitney will be a fit for team usa and i am so excited to see him on that team this coming up olympics
Hey, welcome to the blog
Whitney should be good. Burke definitely had to get some size back after Komisarek went down. Granted, whitney’s always looked better on Olympic ice or in the wide open east, but despite the smaller rink, it will still be Olympic officiating. He should do well.
