***Anaheim Trades Boynton, Recalls Sexton***

THE TELETYPE:
The Ducks announced today that they have traded defenseman Nick Boynton to the Chicago Blackhawks for future considerations.  The team also recalled winger Dan Sexton, having sent him down to the ECHL yesterday afternoon.  Boynton was frequently scratched this season until Sheldon Brookbank and Steve Eminger were able to secure roster spots ahead of him and the Ducks decided to waive the veteran blueliner.  He has been playing in Manitoba of the AHL since clearing waivers.  Sexton was reassigned to the AHL after the Ducks completed a trade for Toronto winger Jason Blake, and he will take the roster spot evacuated yesterday by Evgeny Artyukhin.

With the trades of Artyukhin and Boynton, Anaheim has cleared ~2.5M from the team budget.

Budget clearing is nice, but I sure wish Murray would stop giving players away. I think it was last season when OD was traded to the Queens for “future considerations”, and if I recall correctly that was the beginning of the decline of our now depleted D-core.

I read something earlier today where Murray stated something like “I don’t anticipate and major deals” or something to that degree.

Well then, our troubles are over…

there were some cap/budget headaches involved in getting rid of O’Donnell, and it’s tough to argue with getting rid of Boynton when he cleared waivers. I mean, no one wanted him. Burke was good at giving away NHLers; Murray’s specialty is giving away prospects. He’s at least finding the money to pay Blake this season.

“I don’t anticipate any major deals”

Mah bad

Agreed, but I still think OD would have provided Anaheim with SOME trade value, even if that may have been very little.

I’m just against the whole “future considerations” nonsense. Just say you’re giving the player away because that’s essentially what’s happening.

Anyway, it doesn’t seem like Murray is biting on any deals for even half decent defensemen like Sutton or Leopold. Should we anticipate nothing more than what we’ve seen from the type of deals being made today and yesterday or do you think Murray might have a deal coming for a defenseman even if it’s not a big name?

by Natesaduck on Mar 2, 2010 5:40 PM PST reply actions

he’s cleared some money off the books. that counts for something. but he said he didn’t want to give up a 2nd round pick for an expiring contract, so if he has something planned, it would have to be bigger than the defensemen currently being discussed or significantly smaller. Maybe we can trade Blake back to Burke for Finger.

I like creating big trade speculation. Think Murray might make a legitimate offer for Kubina? I know Waddell said it would take a serious offer to move him. Murray is probably looking to make this team HIS in some way. Getting a Kubina might help with that.

well, I wouldn’t mind giving up lupul at this point. that back is starting to worry me. obviously, moving Blake would be fantastic, but if we end up moving a real player and keeping those players, that would suck pretty hard. I would be so grief-stricken that that is le mot juste: suck-pretty-hard

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Mar 2, 2010 7:43 PM PST up reply actions

I agree, you can’t make a trade like that without including either Blake or Lupul. It’s strange to say, but I’m a little more interested to see what happens this summer. I don’t think we can keep Blake and Lupul. That’s too much money for guys who might not combine for 40 goals next year. Someone just has to be moved. It doesn’t happen now, it should happen at the draft.

He’s got SOMETHING planned. can’t wait to see what

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Mar 2, 2010 9:13 PM PST reply actions

As much as I can’t wait for the Ducks to make a real deal(aka a non-player dump), I’m scared to death at what Murray is going to do.

I say its a 50-50 chance that the Ducks end up standing pat and not making any real deals. Although, it is equally likely that Murray makes some stupid deal that screws everything up.

TFP blog says Phoenix looking for top 6 forward. Maybe we can convince them to take Jason Blake, and maybe we can get Kurt Sauer back!!!

… ANA wants top-four d-man… EDM could move Tom Gilbert…

tfp deadline stream. suggestive?

I’ll take anything right now. I just wish Murray could convince Atlanta to trade Kubina for Jason Blake and James Wisniewski.

you realize he played defense for the Chicago Blackhawks, not the Coruscant Jedis right?

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Mar 3, 2010 8:35 AM PST up reply actions

I’m aware. That’s why I don’t like him. Kubina will cost a first or second rounder, a prospect and a player, even though he’s a rental. I’m just saying Murray needs to work miracles to get me to like him. So far he’s only shown he get assets for players who aren’t playing anymore.
