***Ducks Trade Whitney To Oilers For Visnovsky***

THE TELETYPE:
Per TSN, Anaheim has traded defenseman Ryan Whitney to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Lubomir Visnovsky.  The Edmonton defenseman is signed into 2012-13 with a cap hit of 5.6M, however his salary descends from 7M this year to 6M, 5M and then 3M.  Whitney was signed for the same period at a cap hit of 4M, but with an ascending salary from this year's 3.5M to 4.5M, 5M and then 5.5M.

UPDATE:  Anaheim has also moved Petteri Nokelainen for a 6th Round pick from Phoenix.

looks like the Toskala trade was there to help us pay Lubo this season, both in terms of cap hit and salary. 7M. Yikes! Great discount into the next three years though.

i dont know much about lubo

But based on the reaction of Kings fans from BoC, this seems like a huge move by us. I assume this positions us well for the rest of this season and next year?

We still need some defensive defense presence, but Lubo both rids us of Whitney’s ascending contract and makes negotiating with Wisniewski wholly unnecessary.

Those are two things that make me happy. Plus it might open a serious shot for a young d like mikkelson to finally work out his issues and be consistent here next season. I thunk it’s going to be a very interesting summer.

i think lubo is a very underrated player. will hopefully limit the turnovers…hopefully

Murray had to replace the pick that he threw in for Lubo. Plus I think Carter is better than Nickelodeon anyway

NOKELAINEN TO PHOENIX

Do not like. We have insane depth at the “bottom 6 centerman” position, but I really don’t like sending somebody decent to Phoenix.

he was basically fighting for time against Bodie and Parros lately. And Carlyle likes size enough to where he wasn’t going to win those fights.

Can't argue with getting some good lube.

Visnovsky is a big step up over the American Disgrace, aka Cotton Gin. He was really good with the Kings. Murray might not be a complete idiot after all…

I’m starting to wonder about his idiocy myself. Then again, the entire Edmonton defensive corps was on sale. it feels very police auction.

Yesterday was a great day, just because of this trade.

Funny story, when Whitney turned the puck over to Perry for the goal in the Gold Medal game, I look at my dad and said, “That’s it. Take away Whitney’s citizenship. Deport him to Canada.”

Damn. I’m good.
