It seems incredibly dead around here the past few days so I thought I'd try to mix it up. I've heard from a few people that Scott, Koivu, and Teemu are returning next year. Given this info, who do you think Murray should sign and what do you think the line-up will look on opening day?
Here's what I got:
Lupul-Getz-Perry
Blake-Koivu-Teemu
Ryan-Bonino-Sexton
Belesky/Brown-Marchant/Chipchura-Bodie/McCue
Niedermayer-Volchenkov
Visnovsky-Brookbank
Sbisa-Clark
If we roll with 3 scoring lines next season, I think this is the way to go. I'm not sure Bonino is NHL ready so it might be a better idea to slide Chipchura up there as he has more offensive upside than Marchant. Ryan seems to flourish when playing against lesser opponents and I think he showed some chemistry with Sexton last year. Our surplus of scoring wingers makes it easy to assume there will be 3 scoring lines next season but with the lack of offensive centers in the system, the club may take a different route. It seems that there are more pieces in place for a third scoring line rather than a dedicated checking line, but I'm not opposed to having a dedicated checking line either.
I also decided to go with Matt Clark because I think he'll come out of camp very strong. He had a good year at the O, being voted by the coaches as the best body checker and best defensive defenseman in the league. Also, Volchenkov seems like an obvious choice for a shut-down guy to help take some of the load off Scotty so he can help jump-start the offense. If Volchenkov isn't the guy then I'm thinking perhaps Mitchell or Michalek
I also opted not to re-sign Wisneiwski simply because I think he'll ask for too much. He seems like a gritty 4th/5th defenseman and anything over $1.5 million a year is too much for him.
