Bonino vs Holland

Well fans it's the offseason again but before we get into that let's take a look into out crystal ball and see who the future ducks of tomorrow may be. I know Arthur is sick of me doting on Peter Holland so I'm just gonna flat out compare the two and see which one the fans like better since they are the only two candidates as of now to center our second line in the next few years.

Nick Bonino

Upside: Smart two-way center

Loves to play in the dirty areas ( a typical ducks player)

Has shown good leadership abilities and a knack for scoring big-time goals

Has all the offensive tools you'd expect in a big-time player

Downside: Not a great skater and needs to work on his conditioning

Potential: Dependable two-center who may be a finalist for the Selke trophy with a 15-25 goal potential

At 6-2 he has NHL size but his thin frame makes you wonder if he can withstand the punishment inflicted at the pro level

Peter Holland

Upside: Two-way center with a sweet pair of hands

Has the ability to dominate with his size and skating ability

Great offensive instincts and a hard shot

Downside:

May be lazy depending on which scouting report you believe.

If he doesn;t learn to use his size then he will be a soft third line player

Potential: A dominating physical center who can rack up points every game and can score anywhere from 20 to 40 goals

Warning; The following comes from someone that knows absolutly nothing about Holland

Based on the Ducks’ recent track record with first round picks, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Holland next season. In fact, we haven’t seen a first rounder since Bobby Ryan.

Well, Smid plays elsewhere, Mitera blew out his knee, Gardiner is on a long incubation— I mean, it’s circumstantial, but it’s been a while since we picked in a place where you usually get an instant NHLer, and when we did, we gave him a full AHL cycle.

That being said, Jordan Schroeder looks AWESOME in Manitoba right now. And while teams ahead of us went with Kulikov and Kassian, we chose a guy whose reported head troubles and interview skills weren’t much better than Schroeder’s. I mean, Schroeder was projected Top 12, and fell on Draft Day. Holland was projecting in the second round or end of the first round. The Ducks definitely took a chance, and they may have been happier with Schroeder or even an outright safe pick in a Chris Kreider or Nick Leddy.

So you’re saying Holland is a first round bust? Does that go along with McCue as well? If that’s the case and Gardiner never realizes his potential then we really fucked up

There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.

McCue’s not a draft pick, so there’s really no busting him. We were able to convert Pronger back into a first round defenseman in Sbisa, so we didn’t really miss out on Smid as much as we could have.

Holland is just a bit of a risk, and he had serious trouble with the power forward drills in camp. There are places where he is guaranteed to be awesome, as there are places where Whitney and Wisniewski are guaranteed to be awesome. Right now, I’m just having a hard time believing we’re one of those places.

Would he attracted any valuable trade offers if that becomes a better option?

Ya Idk why I thought McCue was a 1st rounder. The point still stands. It seems there are a lot of risks taken with the draft instead of safe first-rounders. Either we’re fucked or we’re lucky as hell

sometimes talent pool is a big factor. In a bad pool, you really just have to do your homework. I mean, the Stars picked Jerome Iginla without a Top 5 pick. Incidentally, I believe that was the year the Kings and Ducks HAD top 5 picks and went with Aki Berg and Chad Kilger.

As far as trade options, I think he would be good in the East. I don’t think we should be in the business of trying to make him physical or a power forward. I don’t think he’ll get crushed at the next level, but if he wants to play a soft Whitney game, there are teams that could care less. Maybe we can get Tangradi back from the Penguins.

Holland for Tangradi seems like wishful thinking to me. I’d like to see it happen, but I’m not sure the Pens would go for it

There’s a chance Tangradi is slightly overrated. I mean, he’s good, but I don’t know if the Pens are realistic about him or kool-aid drunk. If it’s the former, they might be willing to trade for a strong offensive player and give up some physicality.

Honestly, I wish Albert K would stop making this comparison

There’s a big difference in their ages, and people are currently having the ‘drop Bonino into the NHL’ discussion. No one is saying that yet about Holland. That puts Bonino at least a year, maybe three ahead of Holland in terms of development position. So, WHY would we compare them?

Another thing to note is that Carlye has a general dislike in trying new youngsters, hence part of the reason that I want him gone. Since Bonino has already played a few games this season, he is one step closer to making his way into Carlye’s everyday roster.
