NHL 10 Final Roster Update
Hello everybody! I'm still kind of new here and this my first fan post.
Did anybody else notice in the last NHL 10 update (that included Bonino) that Jake Newton was also included, in the Free Agent group? It kind of looked like him, too. Unlike other rookies they include in the game, he was more of created player (allowing you to customize all his attributes). Out of the box, they gave him an "A" for offensive growth and "B"s for everything else. Some of his details are wrong, though, like his birthday was listed as Sept 18, not 22 and his birth year was 1991 instead of 1988. He was also listed at 6'4", 231 lbs (projected growth?). I can tell it's definitely him, though. It's definitely made playing Be a GM mode more fun to play. No more Boyntons!

Haven't downloaded it yet but will soon
Does it have Volchenkov yet? Can we wrap this up already? Damn it we should be talking about playoff hockey instead of NHL 10. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, I don’t like our Ducks not playing in the playoffs.
Oh and almost forgot. Welcome to Anaheim Calling.

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, what I would give to be talking about the Ducks in the playoffs right now rather than the Ducks in a video game. : (
Fisch has been around for a while, but I’ll second Newport in welcoming you. Definitely welcome to fanposting. There’s a dearth of good fanposts on this site.

Yeah, I remember my first comment was your Newton article a little while back and I forgot to introduce myself! Thanks for the welcome, Arthur.
No More Boyntons!
are you a big Newton fan?

I’m pretty much a fan of McNabb’s signings, I find the journey they take to the NHL far more interesting. Newton seems to be the most promising McNabb acquisition for quite some time, I just hope the Ducks are able to hold on to him as they seem to have a tendency to trade them away, let them walk, or they just leave them in minor league purgatory.
No More Boyntons!
Well, the NHL has changed under the new CBA. McNab asked the bosses to spend a lot of money on Andy McDonald. Guys are much more affordable these days, which I’m sure causes GM’s to think of guys like Chris Kunitz and Curtis Glencross as free money. Generally, though, McNab does more to shape a Ducks team in a few offseasons, than most of our GM’s did in their entire regular season tenures.

I know! Make the guy the GM already!
No More Boyntons!
yeah, it’s getting ridiculous. I’d wager he narrowly missed out on that Wild job. He’ll be a name bandied about at the next opening, even if it isn’t our front office with the vacancy. Then we’ll be without both McNab AND Allaire. We’ll probably never develop another player at that point.

We cannot afford to lose McNab. Allsire was tough to see go but I would be pissed if we let McNab get out the door. He really should be GM in waiting here.

Hey what are you saying? That my fanposts suck?
by Newport Rebel on Apr 29, 2010 12:58 PM PDT up reply actions
well, as Daniel and I were the immediately preceding fanposts, I was actually referring to yours truly. :-)

Haha. This is better than FOWL!
His roster position was uncertain at the end of the season as they put him on IR, and they never let him play in the AHL, so the free agency thing is understandable. The birth year change is probably related to the way they add rookies in the game. He can project better at a younger age, I suppose, since it’s what they do with the Be A Pro players. And if it’s the create-a-player face I’m thinking of, I totally know what you mean about it looking like him. I think that face even has a few acne scars— uncanny!

You realize video games are not an accurate depiction of real life, right? I used to work for a video game company. TRUST ME. Player ratings, especially player updates, are not all that thought out. You should try watching the kid play, rather than taking his polygonal doppelganger out for a spin.

i guess, but the more you come on here and say you were able to trade Mikkelson for a first rounder or whatever, the harder it is to take you seriously. Daniel’s brother was able to trade Patrick O’Sullivan for Vincent Lecavalier in NHL 10. I doubt they’re putting Vinny on trade watch because of it.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 28, 2010 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions
well, none of us does, but it sounds a lot better when you point to an example of an NHL trade, rather than an EA NHL 10 trade when you’re talking about how a kid plays or what he’s worth.

You wanna see what Newton’s like? At least check out this highlight.

It’s not much, but it’s more accurate than what the QA guy at EA will come up with.

nice thanks now i think about it i really wanted chris kreider dang come on pete work hard! mcnab better teach him to play tough
just say straight up hit people and get to the net cause that’s your problem!!!!!
They’re freckles in the game, but they do look like acne scars! I forgot that I could play him in BaP, thanks for reminding me! And thanks for the link to the Newton highlight, too.
I might make “No More Boyntons” my sig. : )
Haha. Staying Boynton free since February

Ya I saw that update. Bonino’s a 73 overall with a B- average potential. According to EA, he’s a career AHLer. EA does a terrible job of depicting prospects’ potential
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
lots of people in the game are B-‘s; I think it’s how they compensate for overrating some people.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 28, 2010 5:54 PM PDT up reply actions
Then how do they compensate for underrating. Koivu an 82? Scott an 87?
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
well, despite some really shady business in the major juniors, they are still technically amateur leagues and not a part of any player association, so it’s illegal to use their name and likeness without their consent.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 28, 2010 6:13 PM PDT up reply actions
yeah, i was just discussing how jeff carter can’t take a faceoff in that game with Daniel. Koivu’s rating is probably because they’re too lazy to change it this season, and I don’t actually notice Niedermayer’s diminished rating in-game.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 28, 2010 6:14 PM PDT up reply actions
Jeff Carter? Why the hell would you play with anyone other than Anaheim? Getzlaf doesn’t win faceoffs either though. I also thought it was funny that they rated Teemu, Ryan, and Perry at 84. That’s two above Boyts lmao
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
Getzlaf not winning a faceoff is more realistic, though. And I noticed the Jeff Carter thing when I played with Daniel and his brother. Although, I do often play as non-Ducks, especially in Be A Pro. Gotta serve the team that drafted you. Can’t wait to get off the Islanders.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 28, 2010 6:33 PM PDT up reply actions
Lmao, I wasn’t as much a fan of Be a Pro in this one. I’ve obtained legend status on 3 different occasions on Be a GM (though it took forever). I initially got into that game mode because I needed to unlock something for my online Be a Pro guy, but I somehow got hooked. Anyway, that game is flawed in more ways that can be imagined. That’s why I’m hooked on MW2 now
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
Seriously? Although I have never played NHL 10, I find it hard to imagine that it can be more flawed than MW2.
Dead serious. It’s tremendously flawed. At least the flaws in ’09 made it fun. The flaws in ’10 just make it frustrating
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
Call me old, but I don’t think I’ve ever played an EA NHL polygonal game that was “too flawed to play.” Nothing’s too flawed to play if you’ve spent hours skating sprites around a TV set.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 28, 2010 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions
Trust me
It is nowhere near as flawed as NBA 2K10’s my player mode before the update. That was horrible and it ruined the game entirely for me.
