***Visnovsky Out; Ducks' Roster Shuffled***

THE TELETYPE:

The Ducks announced today that Lubomir Visnovsky will miss the final three games of the season after fracturing his right hand against the Kings on Tuesday.  The team recalled defenseman Brendan Mikkelson, but according to The OC Register, the team will also be resting veterans Scott Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu and Todd Marchant, at least for the upcoming two game road swing, and will continue to allow Ryan Getzlaf to heal.  With at least five starters staying behind, the Ducks are set to shuffle a number of younger players into the lineup.  Goaltender Jonas Hiller will make the road trip with the team, but it's uncertain if he will play.

As if I already didn’t have enough reason to not watch the game tomorrow. We don’t know if Teemu or Scotty are coming back next season and now we get two less games to appreciate what they bring to hockey.

I’ll be watching as well, and for the same reasons as you, but if this is Teemu and Scott’s last year… fuck this

If you need a minor league hockey fix, there are always streams for AHL games, and this season was a good season to go see the Condors play the Reign in Ontario.

Mikk was called up so we might not see either, but you never know.

by Natesaduck on Apr 8, 2010 7:57 AM PDT up reply actions

Bordson’s been taking practice lately when the vets have sat out, so I would think that’s a possibility. I haven’t heard of Newton doing the same. Stephens’ line rushes later today might give us an indication

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 8, 2010 10:42 AM PDT up reply actions

Wow. The Ducks are the best minor league team in the majors.

I don’t care if the vets don’t play on the road swing since the games are irrelevant. Yet, I will be really pissed if I don’t get to see Teemu and Scotty play at Sunday’s final home game
(possibly their last game, ever).

As far as Getzy and Hiller, shut them down for the rest of the season. Protect your investment, folks. No need to take the risk in meaningless games when there is no reward. (Can you tell I’m a Financial Analyst?)

Yes, I can tell. I also agree. But what has me reeling is not only the fact that my favorite players are missing time, but they’re not even making the trip.. Possibly to talk with Murray about some sort of retirement presentation on Sunday? Maybe Murph wants to give them time with the wives so they say to themselves, “Fuck that, I’d rather play hockey.” You never know. That’s how I viewed their whole “pending retirement” debacle back after the cup year. They spent too much time with their wives and got fat, then thought, “dude I can still play, what the fuck am I doing?”

by Natesaduck on Apr 8, 2010 7:56 AM PDT up reply actions

I do think that the rest is probably a good sign that the two are considering coming back.

by Daniel AC on Apr 8, 2010 9:56 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree, I think they’re resting for a reason…a return next season!

by DuckyG on Apr 8, 2010 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions

i think everyone will be shuffled back in for fan appreciation night. It would be a real slap in the face if they didn’t. I like the idea of getting a good look at the kids and giving the veterans a rest on a back-to-back road trip. There are roster decisions to be made next year, and if these vets don’t come back, it’d be nice to have more than a couple of pre-season games worth of tape to choose their successors.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 8, 2010 10:46 AM PDT up reply actions

The veterans are probably feeling quite fatigued due to no post season letdown. So it will allow them to cry in private rather than get the ice all slick.

Let's go Ducks.

So.........

Can we assemble a group to go to the draft already? Who wants to go?

hopefully I’ll be in the walking around pres area. The brass is still working on that. I’m not much for hanging out at LA Live, but I wouldn’t mind catching a drink at Morton’s or picking up a slice of Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizza.

Selanne + Niedermayer

I live in Montreal, so I don’t hear a lot of Ducks news on T.V. My only two sources of Ducks news is here and on the Ducks website. I want to know what’s going on with Scotty and Teemu about next year. Is there any rumors or hints that tell what will happen with them next year? What you guys think?!

by JGCrevier on Apr 8, 2010 11:31 AM PDT reply actions

No hints, really. Bob Murray said he hasn’t had serious talks with them or their agents and he doesn’t plan to until a month after the season ends. No negotiations means no rumors. :-) They might not even be considering it yet.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 8, 2010 11:55 AM PDT up reply actions

It would be such a disaster if they both retire… Selanne is still a premium goal scorer in this league and his line with Blake and Koivu was getting really good! Plus, if niedermayer leaves, I can’t see how horrible Ducks defense will be next year… I’m sure 1y/5M for Niedermayer and 1y/3M for selanne would be acceptable offers for both… When do you guys write a post on ‘’ Be Bob Murray for one day ’’ We could list the moves we would do with the team…

Anyway
Is there a way that we could force them to play? Just Asking… :P

by JGCrevier on Apr 8, 2010 12:02 PM PDT up reply actions

once the offseason starts, I’m sure Daniel will write that post. There’s a fantasy GM land in his mind where he likes to retire and run the team, if not the world.

I would say the biggest problem for both players in coming back is that the Ducks aren’t very good right now. Teemu usually waits for Scotty to say he’s coming back, but even with Scotty, the team was downright awful from game to game this year. I knew they would come back for the Olympics, but I don’t know how eager thay are to do this again. Teemu doesn’t like losing and Scotty doesn’t really need to win anything any more, especially not after two gold medals. Murray will have to convince them he can do a better job of rebuilding than he did this season.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 8, 2010 12:11 PM PDT up reply actions

You’re probably going to say that I have a subjective mentality but. Can we say that Ducks deserved a better ending to their season? Lupul injury, Selanne injuries, the W’s Defense, giguere struggles, Hiller’s new num 1 status. IMO, Ducks future is bright! Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Lupul, Koivu ( We need to resign him) are great top 6 fowards. We will have two top 15 picks in the 2010 draft, Hiller is a good goalie, we saw that we have a good back up in Curtis McIcan’tspellhisnamecorrectly. We won’t have Whitney and Wiz to make soft plays on defense, Lubo is a good offensive D-man… All we need to sign is one or two stay at home defenseman… Andy Sutton or Volchenkov type… Maybe resign Aaron Ward…
Lupul-Getz-perry
Blake-Koivu-Selanne
Sexton-Marchant-Ryan
Beleskey-Carter-Parros
Brown-Bodie

Niedermayer-Eminger
Visnovsky-Volchenkov
Sbisa-Festerling
Mikkelsson

Hiller
Curtis (lol)

I love this lineup just like that. Pretty sure we would be under cap
Feel free to comment… :P

No love for Chipchura?

I loved the lineup on paper going into the season. And with Joffrey Lupul actually passing and blocking shots, I would’ve said no way that’s not a playoff team. Volchenkov would go a long way, but having seen the team struggle together (and having seen the first line notch a scoring streak during a losing streak), I think chemistry is going to be the biggest issue. Anyone that slows it down has got to be out the door, not just shifted to another line or pairing.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Apr 8, 2010 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

If you want to roll 3 scoring lines, I’d suggest a more offensive minded center than Marchant. Personally Idk if that would be the make-up of the forwards next year unless you want to throw Bonino in there instead of Marchant.

As far as your D suggestions there’s one really big problem I see. EMINGER. There’s no way he’s good enough to be paired with Niedermayer when there’s so many other options out there. IF Nieds comes back, AND we sign Volchenkov, I’d pair them both together. Then sign a guy like O’donnel, but perhaps younger (unless Matt Clark can handle top 4 minutes which might be too much to assume) stay at home defenseman. Then round out the bottom two with Sbisa and Eminger (seeing how this shitty player is still under a fucking contract).

Lupul-Getz-Perry [assuming Getz wants to kick ass, if not this is our second line]

Blake-Koivu-Teemu [i like this line, depending on how well they play and how bad Getz plays, potential 1st line]
Ryan-Bonino-Sexton/Belesky [If you want to role 3 scoring lines, this is the way to do it. If and only if Bonino pans out, personally I’d go with a safer bet and sign someone with more NHL experience and let Bonino develop more]

Chipchura-Marchant-Bodie [Potentially a dedicated checking line]

Parros-Cater-Brown [Depending on what role you want your 4th line, this would be the energy line]

As far as D goes, it’s up in the air at this point, but this is what I’d like to see

Nieds-Volchenkov/Mitchel [this would give Nieds more freedom]

Vis-Clark/Hamhuis [I think I jizzed]

Sbisa-Brookbank [any injuries to the guys above them on their respective sides and you slide them up a slot and they should perform quite well]

Eminger/Mikk [scratch]

by Natesaduck on Apr 8, 2010 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions

Who do you think that is bad for team chemistry? From where I stand, I can’t see someone with a bad attitude… I guess It’s a little hard to notch these things when you read ducks website + watch games on NHL game center live… I know a lot about Canadiens tough…

My bad for Chippy! I kept his image in my head of the time he played for Habs… He was awful. But I guess he played good during 50 games with Anaheim. Might keep him on the 4th line. I would prefer Carter and his good speed…

by JGCrevier on Apr 8, 2010 2:01 PM PDT reply actions

Whitney was bad for chemistry. He’s a little bitch

by Natesaduck on Apr 8, 2010 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Good thing that he’s gone! Can’t believe that we gave Tangradi and Kunitz for him… Kunitz was a great LW…

things like Wisniewski only being able to play with Niedermayer or Lupul struggling on a line with another shooter in Selanne. Those things are bad for chemistry, and if we shift the depth chart for the struggles of one player, that player had better be Getzlaf or Niedermayer, not Wisniewski or Lupul. I think, when Wiz couldn’t figure out how to play with Whitney or Boynton, that should have been the end of Wiz. It made no sense to saddle NIedermayer with another offensive defenseman. Next year, if someone isn’t working out, or needs to play on their natural wing, etc., I say we get rid of them or force them into the bottom of the depth chart until they figure it out. We shouldn’t try to force a player into a position he can’t play and we shouldn’t let him blow up the team so we can put him in the only place he knows how to play.

Watching last night’s game (shock me, shock me, Ducks lose the lead with under 2 minutes to go), we got a preview of life without Selanne and Niedermayer. I don’t like it. Granted, no Getzy, Marchant or Koivu in the lineup, but it was downright frightening. We have amazing talent, tons of speed; however, our D was ugly. We were lucky Dallas was crappy, too.

I would like: Eminger to leave the team; Wiz to pull his head out of his ass; and Teemu and Scotty’s skeletons infused with Adamantium.

Finally on a non-Ducks related note, Modano should be a first ballot HOF’er. I’m not an emotional person, but man, I almost cried watching him tear up last night.

I don’t think Teemu will want to retire on this note to end his stellar career. In fact i say bring back Kariya and let them revert back to their younger years when they were a feared twosome on a weak ass team, but only bring back the twosome part not the weak assed team, we had that this year, lol

If practice makes perfect....
Yet nobodies perfect.....
Then why practice ???
