Offseason Updates
I haven't had much to do today and it appears our fellow posters have abandoned us for a while, so I'm taking up the liberty to update everyone on a couple moves that were made today.
More after the jump...
First on the list, the Ducks will qualify Wisniewski. It appears Murray is still interested in doing something with this fella. Whether that be trading his rights, signing him, or taking him to arbitration. Murray's plans with Wisniewski still remain to be seen.
Next up, the Ducks sign Brandon McMillian to a three-year entry level deal. Great news. The kid plays LW and is pretty high up in the cupboard for Anaheim.
Lastly, the Ducks trade Modig to Pittsburgh for a sixth round pick in 2010's draft. Modig was a fourth round pick in the 2007 draft......
All in all, not a busy day by most means, but it's been slow lately, so for me this is a news-filled day.

Wow that is just not good if we are trading this fast a 2007 4th round pick for a 6th round pick.
I mean really after 3 years?

That's Murray for you.
I suppose I shouldn’t say much about it because I haven’t done my homework on the prospect, but it appears Barstool Bob thinks he can get more out of a later draft pick this year than can with the earlier pick from ‘07. Personally, I’m just not a fan of Murray’s instincts in trading our prospects
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
I agree with you.
This does seem like a little to quick to trade away this kid. I think Murray really trusts his scouting department to get him something good with all the late picks we have this year( im saying we like if im part of the organization lol).
Hmm that’s odd. We have 4 writers and none of them are around to post the news.
Anyway, thanks for the update Nate. I probably would have missed this otherwise, as I haven’t been checking the OC Register much since the season ended.
Is it just me or are you guys dreading what Murray does with Wiz this offseason? I can’t help but think that he will do something stupid and give him a butt load of money after refusing to give Beauchemin $3 mil. last year.
It sounds like Murray is handling it appropriately. Wis wants #2 money, but Murray won’t budge. I’m hoping he can get something for his rights (probably not) or at least take him to arbitration and let him walk. I’m pretty sure everyone would be calling for his head if he signed Wis for more than he got paid this year
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
You’d be surprised. In general, Anaheim fans seem to love Wiz. Not us, but other fans seem to love him. As such, it wouldn’t surprise me for everyone to consider keeping Wisniewski as an invaluable piece in the future of the organization and applauding Murray like they did 2 years ago for apparently rebuilding on the fly.
I couldn’t believe Stephens took him to the woodshed like that:
It is believed that Wisniewski is seeking a salary closer to what a No. 2 defenseman makes while it’s likely that the Ducks don’t view him as that and had to play him so much more out of necessity than desire.Throw in the words, “and he’s clearly made of gingerbread” and you’d think i wrote it.

technically, news is solely my job. So me being busy today nixed this. I’m re-posting it now. Sorry, all.

Technically, I just make smart-ass comments. I leave the actual reporting to the boys.
So here we go with the comments:
1) I’ve said it before, I’d like to see Wiz gone. He thinks he’s worth waaay more than Murph is going to be willing to pay. I have a feeling this one is going to arbitration and Wiz is gonna get his feelings hurt.
2) Not the winger I want signed right now.
3) 6th round pick, meh.

Yep. Doesn’t make sense, but it’s correct.

Terry Murray’s nickname is also Murph, so it’s pretty common. I just go with it. I don’t really know how John became Jack or how Richard became Dick, but I just go with it.

I saw that. 2 years for $1.5 million. That’s a hell of a deal. All hope is not lost with Murph, yet..

That’s a hell of a deal.
I know I’ve talked up Brookbank out of my personal appreciation for him, but that’s a hefty fee for a guy who may look totally out of place in a more complex system. If Carlyle’s out next year, or even this year, that 1.5M might start to look bigger and bigger. I mean, 1.5 didn’t seem like a lot for Boynton, who didn’t necessarily have to come all the way down from his salary perch after falling from grace in the NHL, but it became an eyesore by the time we moved him.
