We might as well discuss this too.
So, the OC Register released a list of the Ducks top 10 rivals. I know the recent questionaire's by Jen and Robby, which are good and you should read them, have reintroduced the topic of what teams we like to hate. Still, it never hurts to let everyone express their hate, either for a particular team, or the construction of this list. I personally don't know how anyone who considers him/herself a Ducks fan can hate anyone more than they hate Detroit, but if you read the comments you'll find a couple. Please, hate on people.

Detriot, San Jose, Dallas and I’m sick and tired of anything that comes from Pittsburgh.
I also dont like the Nucks very much. Oh and the Yankees! and The Dodgers! and the Cowboys!
You know what screw Texas and Pennsylvania!
alright….I’m done.
Amo la manera una haba y el burrito del queso siente alrededor de mi pene.
In light of the fact that I hate the Red Wings more, I have put a temporary moratorium on my hate for the sharks. As I’ve said before, my hate of Detroit is real. I appreciate your commitment to hating detroit steven.
Last years postseason killed anything near hate I had for the Sharks and increased my hate for the Wings. Hating the Wings is like dessert there always seems to be time for it.
Save Drew Miller, he needs to be rescued.
doubt Miller needs to be rescued. That’s a Spartan from a Spartan family. He probably needed to be rescued from Anaheim. Can’t eat lunch with Newell Brown and talk Michigan State every day.

if san jose wins then we wont be the only california team to win the cup daniel… detroit has a million so its not that bad
tsk! What have the Sharks ever done to you?

oh, man. it’s like you’ve never met Jeff Friesen and refuse to acknowledge we paid at least 3M of Selanne’s salary his first full year with you guys. If we traded you a pack of Marlboro’s for Pavelski, we’d just be coming up on even.

I think last year more than makes up for any of that … and more.

No. Never. Humiliating you in the first round was fun, but does not make up for Paul Kariya losing the Cup in 2003.
us or Hawks … you can’t really be cheering on the Hawks … (and don’t tell me you would cheer on the East when we all know the West is the Best). :)

pack of marlboro’s offer sheet for Pavelski, then we’ll talk about mending wounds. It’s not our fault you guys couldn’t get it done against us last year.

Pavelski is going no where … and no comment on the other … we’re making up for it this season tho. :)

Pavelski could get offer sheeted. Not by us. But you guys are certainly vulnerable, and getting some draft picks back could be a necessity at this point.

uhhhhhhhh, yeah. Because goal production is really all you’re looking for when you acquire a player /rolls eyes

I’m sensing Albert’s ignorance is beginning to annoy you
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
I wouldn’t call it ignorance so much as dismissive declarations.

hey screw you too we dont need him are u guys dumb? we have a fine offense… now what bring in joe and move blake and lupul 2 bad contracts unlikely this isnt a video game joe is never gonna sign with us and we have issues on the back end so yeah
Sorry, Pavelski is an awesome player. The guy has 8 or 9 goals in the playoffs and he almost single-handedly saved the Sharks from the Avalanche. Pursuing Pavelski is worth the logjam at forward. It would be a good problem to have, like Pittsburgh having 3 phenomenal centers.
Yeah we need D, but unlike with goalies, teams always need forwards. We’ll find someone to take Blake, we wouldn’t HAVE to re-sign Koivu. Let’s also keep in mind that we are creating some of our own forward problems by keeping Koivu and Selanne instead of pursuing younger options.
Again, it’s not that I don’t want those guys back, I’m just saying there’s a lot of space for both sides on this. Either way, Pavelski is worth the offer sheet.
Albert, if you’re going to say things like that, I think it would be helpful to everyone if you could give an example as to why you think that way. It just seems to me that you like saying random things without explaining your thought process. If you explain, then people won’t think you’re talking for the sake of talking. It’s much more meaningful when you explain things or even give an example. That way there could be more in-depth conversations and everyone could learn something.
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
Don’t humor him? lol shit, you guys are brutal. Personally, I’d prefer Saku over Pavelski. It’s just personal preference, I think. I know saku is older, but he seems more like a tooth and nails guy. I think that’s an important characteristic for a guy who’s going to be playing in most situations.
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
well let’s see do i need to explain why i like blake better hmmm… lets examine class lupul is coming off of back surgery you never know how a guy is gonna react from major surgery example brendan morrison and plus he seems to be enjoying the night life too much and he’s overpaid… i dont like giving 20 to 25 goal scorers 4 mil and blake just works harder lupul’s skilled no doubt but one has to go for us to have any cap flexibility
lol shit, you guys are brutal.
It’s bordering on trolling. Maybe more HF Boards— “That guy is such an overrated hoser” —trolling, but trolling nonetheless. He’s just chiming in and dismissing other people’s opinions, and opinions mentioned in passing as part of a joke to boot. No real discussion created.
This site isn’t the most positive thing out there, so I’m not going to boot someone for ‘relentless negativity,’ but that doesn’t mean everyone should get bent out of shape answering every non sequitur. I mean, SBN is more of a message board. You can ignore someone for the most part. You don’t have to SPAM them off the screen like you did in the IRC or AOL days. So ’don’t humor him’ just sounded like good advice to me. /shrugs

"Top 10 rivals"?
The concept of having “10 rivals” seems a little ridiculous in my opinion. Anyways (not exactly rivals, pretty much just a list of teams I dislike)…
1) San Jose
2) Detroit
3) Pittsburgh
4) Boston (in every sport)
Self-anointed President of the Kenjon Barner fan club.
If we were doing a list of teams we just don’t like, then I would have to add the Canadiens to the list.
Don’t care. I loved the Penguins before the Crosby years. I was a huge Lemieux fan. I will honestly contend that he was a better player than Gretzky. The point is, since Crosby came around the pens have become the red wings of the east. Announcers and other media talk about them as if they don’t do anything questionable or engage in dirty plays. I can’t stand it. Crosby could cross check a dude in the face and the announcer would call it a clean play. I hate that. It’s SO annoying!!!
I’m so not feeling the Sharks love here people! Support your State hockey team!! … :)
Least until next season starts.
(okay, unrealistic I know – had to try)

The only reason I don’t hate the Sharks right now is because they are playing the red wings, and I HATE the red wings.
That makes sense,
But I still dislike the Sharks more than the Red Wings, mainly because of a few friends of mine that totally jumped on the San Jose bandwagon.

Wait … you’re hating the Sharks due to friends of yours being bandwagon fans? That doesn’t make sense. :)

You have no idea how annoying they are regarding the Sharks.
No idea.

Ang, get your 3-0 high out of here and let these people hate in peace. Oh, and by the way, are you at all scared that this is setting the table for the greatest choke of all time?? I’m 99% sure you guys are going to win, even if in 7, but in the back of my mind, I’m wondering about that 1%. If they lose, I’m going to FTF and hitting Print Screen. Aaron Brothers, here I come.

The mere fact alone I’m admiting this makes me want to vomit.
I want Detroit to win so bad, just for the pure joy I’ll receive from the SJ choke… Although, it looks the Sharks have it in the bag and I’ll have to wait until next round :)

Nor am I. It’s like you don’t realize how much the Red Wings have been a burden to us. Not just in terms of playoff meetings, but also in the fact that because everyone in the media loved them, their meetings with us caused an Anaheim backlash. I firmly believe that our “goon” reputation was severely magnified by playing the Red Wings and people refusing to acknowledge that they play dirty too.

ha ha! For the first time I can actually see light at the end of the tunnel. Just getting to that ever elusive 3rd round would be awesome! I know the Sharks have done it before, but it was such a long long time ago.
I tell ya, I’ve been smiling all day!! :)

Why hate the Coyotes? That’s like hating the homeless. It might not be aesthetically pleasing, but are they really hurting anybody?
Nope, still doesn’t make sense. As someone who normally encourages hate as a bonus for being a hockey fan, I find the hate you are advocating as generally irrational. It’s like getting mad at a football player who does better than you on a test.
Let's hate people too!
We can all pretty much agree on the same teams we hate.
Now, let’s talk players! Who are the top 5 players you just despise and the mere sight of them makes you want to go Barstool Bob?
I’ll start!
1) Jack Johnson
2) Joe Thornton
3) Shane Doan
4) Ryan Whitney
5) Dion Phaneuf (sp?)

exactly half? Everyone playing right side?

1) Sidney Crosby
2)Todd Bertuzzi
3) Joel Otto
4) Steve Avery
5) All Red Wings current and past that aren’t Sergei Fedorov
same reason you chose to mention Atlanta Braves pitcher Steve Avery? You can’t hate them very much if you can’t remember Steve and Sean by name. Just saying.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on May 5, 2010 5:05 PM PDT up reply actions
My hate has blinded me to their true identities. Plus, I put this list together on the fly this morning, when I was clearly lost in remembering the early 90s for some reason.
It’s been 20 years. They’re not even in the NL West anymore. Isn’t it time to forgive Steve Avery?
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on May 5, 2010 5:28 PM PDT up reply actions
Steve Avery will always remain a jackass in my opinion. The guy is the Mayweather of hockey and not in a good way. He is in a more obnoxious/ loudmouth way. Honestly if he ever played for the Ducks I may have to take a season off.

Goddamn Duck Killer. As Earl said, he’s clearly practices racism against water fowl. My list is four goons, three skill guys and— wooops —three goaltenders. I forgot to put Turco in there at 10.

As a Ducks Fan...
Teams I hate:
1- Detroit Red Wings – Screw them for giving the Ducks a bad reputation. Screw them for thinking they are better than all the other teams in this league. Screw them for being Detroit. Screw them!
2- Pittsburgh Penguins – I hate CROSBY SO DAMN BAD. NO ONE CAN EVEN COMPREHEND. SCREW THAT GUY. He is a such a complete douchebag. Cindy this and Cindy that. The Penguins are everyone’s favorite team. NOT MINE. Screw them. I’m sick of the NHL pushing them as the team everyone should root for. I hope Cindy dies in a car accident. I hate that guy and the damn Pens. (If Kunitz wasn’t on the team they’d be pushing Detroit for #1).
3- Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins, Flyers, Rangers, Red Wings, Pens, and Hawks. I think that’s the list of the only teams that apparently exist in this league according to the NHL, Versus, and NBC. It’s for that reason I HATE all of them. It pisses me off to no end that those teams make up probably 90% of the teams that play on Versus. Expand your damn horizon Versus and NBC. It makes me sick. I wouldn’t be surprised if one day I wake up and there are two teams in the league – The Pens and the Caps. Then Buttman would get exactly what he wants.
I hate those teams. I feel like I need to punch a baby or something right now. I am enraged. Grrr…
As for players I hate…
1- Cindy Crosby – Don’t get me started again.
2- Holmstrom – Do I really need to explain why I hate this guy? I think not. It should be obvious.
3- OV – Another one of the two players apparently that make up this entire league. Screw you OV. You might be a decent player, but you’re dirty (not to mention you get away with that crap because Buttman is your BFF) and you piss me off.
4- Hossa – For some reason I hate the living you know what out of this guy. I hope he never wins the cup… I hate players who sign contracts I know they will never fulfill the length of and that are altered to lower the cap hit. I know he’s not the only one, but I hate him. It probably has to do with him playing for the Pens and Wings too, but I hate him. Did I mention I hate him?
Now that I’m all riled up, I feel I should explain some teams that I can’t bring myself to hate… I can’t hate the Sharks or the Kings. I don’t know why, but I just can’t even if they are in our division. I think this stems from neither of them having won a cup before and neither of them having beat the Ducks in the playoffs ever. I would almost feel like an ass if I hated on them. They’ve done nothing to deserve it. In some ways, I feel bad for them. I guess that’s why I can’t hate them. As for the Yotes, I truly do feel bad for them. I’m glad they did well this year. And the Stars are the Stars… Don’t really have any feelings one way or another about them.
I feel somewhat better having vented some of my hate, but I still feel the need to punch a baby. I am a terrible person.
