Ducks Extend Brookbank
DANIEL:
The Anaheim Ducks have signed Sheldon Brookbank to a two year extension. Financial terms were not disclosed, as per club policy. It seems Murray wanted to keep around somebody who can make safe plays in his own zone. It has been speculated by some, including me, that Brookbank might make a suitable partner for Visnovsky. Only time will tell. This is the first in a long line of free agents that Murray needs to sign this offseason. Bobby Ryan, Saku Koivu, Kyle Chipchura, Scott Niedermayer, Teemu Selanne and James Wisniewski are all players who were key components of the Ducks roster who are still waiting for contracts.

Sorry Daniel I think you are wrong.
One of the other members made a fanshot just a bit ago with this story. And with what the contract he signed is. Here is the link http://www.insidesocal.com/ducks/2010/06/brookbank-re-signs-for-2-years.html. He signed a 2 year and 1.5 million dollar contract

not really how we do a teletype, further evidence Daniel does not read Anaheim Calling, so I’ve edited this to reflect a post by you.

I mean, it’s not like I want him to get his news from this site or anything. the danger is mostly in him repeating something I or someone else has already posted on here, but it was definitely worth noting that it was like he’d never seen a Teletype post before or couldn’t click on the Teletype section as a point of reference.

It’s a little unfair because I’ve never explained to Daniel or anyone the purpose of the Teletype. It branches off of the radio station theme for this site. During the radio days, announcers would get their news from the AP over a teletype machine and just read the prepared statement over the air. Some later program or the program which was interrupted for the news might comment on it, but the teletype information was presented intact.
The idea was that we would give you a forum with just the news and the relevant links. In Brookbank’s case, a link to the Ducks announcement, followed by a link to the salary information from a beat writer or cap geek. Then maybe a quick stat line or one sentence to put things in perspective. We then enclose the title in multiple asterisks, so anyone clicking from a syndicated source knows it’s just news and wont’ contain a blogger opinion, emphasized by the fact that the voice is identified as THE TELETYPE:

free agents that Murray needs to sign…James Wisniewski
No! I realize that the quote is taken out of context, but still: No!
Lmao, I thought the same thing!
I wouldn’t mind Wiz on the team if he didn’t demand so much money. Fuckin’ spoiled little shit
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
I don’t know if it’s spoiled to want what you’re worth on the open market. And if an Eastern Conference team picked him up, he could certainly stay healthy and serve above and beyond a 4M contract number. I mean, when you’re talking about Wiz, you’re talking about a guy who tore his ACL while working out the summer before a contract year. That guy’s pretty dumb, but the guy that decides he can waste 2.75M signing him isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed either. Murph and Wiz may deserve each other.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jun 2, 2010 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions
You think he is worth big dollars on the open market? He now has a stigma around the Prongs and Artu level of dirty play. Refs will be watching his ass for the next few years and you can bet that some bad calls are going to go against him. It seems to me that NHL refs seem to have a long memory and unfairly keep tabs on certain players and teams. Wiz is going to be a lightning rod for which ever team he plays for. I don’t think he deserves the attention but that doesn’t change the fact that refs will be all over him.
by Newport Rebel on Jun 2, 2010 7:58 PM PDT up reply actions
Well, he seemed to realize this year that he was hurting himself throwing checks (and doing virtually everything else that wasn’t shooting). Those two checks he was suspended for were probably the biggest hits he threw all year. In the East, he wouldn’t really need a physical game at all, especially with his size. So, if you’re talking about a small power play specialist, who maybe telegraphs his offense a little too much, yeah, that’s worth a 4M contract. And if he’s not throwing checks or doing anything remotely defensive, which he isn’t much good at anyways, then I don’t see what the refs can call him for. With US or a Western Conference team, you’re absolutely right. But it’s a question of using a player properly.

Obscene Language
The language on this message board is attrocious! I enjoy checking in and seeing what folks have to say, but I also have children that are huge Ducks fans. I am thinking I may need to block this site due to the language. Please try to keep things clean.
Perhaps you might enjoy the Official Anaheim Ducks Message Board.
They don’t allow profanity so it may be more appropriate for you and your children.
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
Also Nate it could be that you are talking about Wiz. I mean I don’t curse very often but when I talk about Wiz a f bomb or two may flow. It just rolls off the tounge ya know?
by Newport Rebel on Jun 2, 2010 8:59 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t know that it’s possible not to use profanity when talking about Wisniewski this season. If there’s someone who can do it, I’d sure like to meet a person who has that kind of self control
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
I thought about imposing community language rules when we installed the moderators, but that was around the time Daniel carpet F-bombed the state of Texas when his hotel room wouldn’t give him a clean feed of the Ducks game. Hard to find the moral high ground to ban anything there.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jun 2, 2010 10:00 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t think community language rules would be the best choice for a Ducks blog. I imagine that it would be hard to maintain such a blog when both “Wiz” and “Wisniewski” are automatically blocked.
haha well "Wiz" wouldn't be a reason we wouldn't do it lol.

Hey let me just say this.
First you are over generalizing as I for one know that to say the language on this board is atrocious means that you are not keen on message boards in general.
Second most of the time there is very little Cussing/profanity seen on here and in this article that is the only two words I believe and each once. Only one of which is a cuss word.
Now I am glad you read this and your children love the Ducks and hope they continue to, however you can not expect 0 cussing as that is an unexpectable request. If it was to get out of hand then I could say something and if they were saying at a poster I would for sure say something. I for one know Newport and that he doesn’t do it a lot.

As the Managing Editor, I have to say that while it is very important to me that the seven dirty words don’t appear above the comment line, we are still a very small community, and it would be unreasonable for me to turn away users for foul language. A majority of SB Nation sites are very strict with their language, though some of the very successful SB Nation sites are not. We are not currently at the point where we have to make that decision, but if the community grows exponentially, it is something we will consider in the future.

hahaha The football blogs don't exactly do that lol. There are a couple that are strict but not many,

you can tweet our stories if you like. we’ve been picked up by twitter bombs before and don’t get any traffic from it— like seriously ZERO —so I don’t really see what the fuss is about. We would need to get into a private twitter discussion like Jen did with Lupul and vivianmtl for it to be a traffic booster. It’s actually what Robby does for a living I think, so I would feel bad asking him, but Daniel already spends too much time on his personal facebook and I’m…/shrugs…on the whole thing.

I want my site one to be all about sports or Colts. we will promote the Colts articles and since the other main guy in on it with me is a Lakers fan probably some of those. It’s not terribly enlightening. Ducks Fans suggested we muzzle Natesaduck, and it became a State-Of-The-Site discussion.
On the FB/Twitter, the alternative is it not getting managed at all, so you’re free to jump in. I hear people are leaving Facebook en masse, and people are working on an open source alternative, so I’m not in a rush to get a Fan Page on there or anything.

Fuck censorship
That’s probably one of the most overused phrases my writers but I think its true. There are countless mediums for Ducks fans online, and I think we do a pretty good job of monitoring our language ourselves.
I hear the same things about FB too but I’d estimate it still has a good 18 months before a viable platform surpasses it.

From time to time I may use a curse word. Usually a fair amount of drinking has occured but hey it happens. All of us Newporters drink heavy Jen so don’t shut us down. Should we as a community try to not curse, yes. However sometimes non curse words do not drive home the point as well as a curse word. I have no problem with curse words unless they are used in a personal attack against another reader.

i think it’s rare enough around here to where it still has some force when you say it. I mean, Daniel got his point across about Texas to me very effectively.

agree that is what I was saying to the guy that started this lol.

Well Texas is a special case. Daniel get a pass for just simply being in Texas. I have family in Texas and cursing is like breathing air down there. I am sure our new guy from Texas can back me up on this. You haven’t lived till you’ve been cursed out by a Texan.

Again, my name is being used in vain!
Geez I have one busy week with work and school and they boys are all talking about me like I’m not here.
My mom thought my f-bomb in the haiku was funny. My dad thought it was unnecessary. I needed the syllable. Anyhoo, I will make a conscious effort to watch my salty pirate mouth.

Did you not write an Fan Post Shut down Newport?
Second part. DUH! What did you think was going to happen?

Rebel, rebel, rebel. Didn’t we discuss this before?
I only wanted to shut it down for my bff Lupul’s sake. When you countered, I appointed you as his personal babysitter, to which you declined.
Which part are you DUH-ing me on?

Look if I was Lupuls babysitter, well lets just say I would make the situation worse. I am a bad influence when it comes to hitting the town.
I’m German and Irish and raised in the south.
The DUH was for talking shit when you turn your back.
It was a joke or at least an attempt at one.

Haha! I see your point :) sooooo, let’s go back to my other idea. when he arrives at a bar, we all pretend to be asleep. :)
And yes, I knew you were making a joke. I just wanted to know which comment I had to direct my smart ass response to.

BTW, Actual Brookbank comments
I think it’s worth nothing that 700/800 is a pretty small offer. I don’t know if Murray added a year at 800 or what, but what could that initial offer, which Brookbank rejected, have been? Did he actually try to renew him at 500K/year? If so, these lowball offers must be killing his credibility in the free agency market.

Yea you have a point. It is one thing to sign a guy for a low contract but for what he siged you had to start very low and way below what would probably be market value.

Actually I am excited from Sheldon and if I was his agent I would tell him that this is a good thing. He has not proven yet that he is a legit top 4 guy yet. Yeah he got some time due to injuries, suspension, and lack of performance from the guys ahead of him, but he has yet to carve out that top 4 spot as his own. He will get that chance now to prove that he can be that guy and he has a short 2 year contract to do it in. If he can grow as a player and get paired with Lubo, I think he will shine and two years from now he will be in a solid position to renegotiate for a much larger contract. He will have a proven track record of being able to handle top 4 minutes. The clock is ticking for Brookbank now. It’s up to him over the next two years to show the front office how good he can be. Sometimes it is not how much cash can I get right now but rather look for long term payouts.

yeah, 1.5 isn’t really Top 4 money. And Sheldon is an older player. On the open market, there are definitely teams that would have put 1.25M into him. He can’t play a complex system or anything, but there are plenty of teams that need depth defense.

I think it got caught up in the scheduled downtime. SBN was performing maintenance around midnight. I was surprised we were able to keep talking, actually.

I never noticed a interuption in service last night.
by Newport Rebel on Jun 3, 2010 10:48 AM PDT up reply actions
Welll, it was strange that AngelsColts reply got dumped early, and I tried to post a comment around 12:20 or something and it just wouldn’t post. Then when I was able to comment again, the bottom comments were deleted. I attributed the hiccup to the scheduled maintenance.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jun 3, 2010 11:03 AM PDT up reply actions
Ya, I found that a bit odd last night. One moment, AngelsColts’ comment was there and the next it was gone. This is probably the most comments that we have ever had in a non-Game Day post.
Another Brookbank related comment
Just so there’s SOME balance of brookbank discussion in this thread. After signing, Brookers probably leap frogs Sexton in my list of jerseys to get. I will now be on the lookout for a Cincinnati Mighty Ducks jersey to make a Brookbank throwback before I make my Sexton throwback.
