Teemu for 2 years?

According to Hockey Insider, sources say "Teemu Selanne discussing 2 year deal with Ducks". If this happens, it will arguably be the biggest deal this offseason.

Star-divide

Now, I know I needn't remind all of you that a little while ago I mentioned Teemu wanted a two year deal. And I don't want to get anyones hopes up because nothing is "official" but I think it's safe to say everyone would be ecstatic to have him back for TWO more years. Here's to hoping we get to see Teemu rack up a bunch of goals at Ponda over the next couple seasons!

yeah but he would delay the process of giving sexton second-line time… same with holland and descahamps and bonino

Sexton can do fine on a third line with Chipchura, and the like….Bonino needs another year, he looked like a deer in headlights a little, Holland and Deschamps? Which do you feel could be a second line winger in the fall?

by Buick22 on Jul 23, 2010 10:02 AM PDT up reply actions

Nicolas D. played left wing in the Q last year and Sexton didn’t look good playing on a third line since Randy doesn’t seem to feel like having a third scoring line even though that’s what Murray obviously wants

Teemu is the shit. I love that Fin.

I like how Bob is getting a bunch of forwards instead of D!!!!!!!!

by Albert K on Jul 22, 2010 10:19 AM PDT reply actions

Remember not to long ago when we didn’t have a decent second scoring line (so we stacked)… now we have forwards and no D (and we need to stack).

Funny how stuff changes in a short amount of time.

Remember when we had both and won the cup? oh the memories!

И как кровь из вены капает слеза.

One more year!

shows he can still burry the puck no problem

that is great veteran presence with a great shot. easy decision to sign him

Best of all that deal lets him go out with his buddy Saku. I don’t see Saku playing that much longer even though the guy can still bring it night after night. Lets be honest, the guy gave 110% every night last season. Hell he has done that just about every game he has ever played. No wonder the dude beat cancer. Cancer is Saku’s bitch. Teemu can still find the back of the net and when you look at him skate he hasn’t lost that big of a step. He is still a top player in the game.

hahaha rec’d

There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.

Although I don’t understand the reasoning behind it, I wouldn’t argue against a 2 year deal.

We need more Boyntons.

by yankeeken on Jul 22, 2010 6:10 PM PDT reply actions

if he retires after the first year, they just add the second year’s price artificially to the cap. We don’t actually have to pay it to him.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 22, 2010 6:23 PM PDT up reply actions

I realize that, but I don’t understand why Selanne would want a 2 year deal.

We need more Boyntons.

by yankeeken on Jul 22, 2010 6:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Ya, he also said they would have no activity on the first day of free agency.

There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.

by Natesaduck on Jul 22, 2010 9:22 PM PDT up reply actions

and he backed that up when he said that he was going to let everyone get signed until he realized ‘where the numbers were going’ He was honest about his incompetence; don’t know why he’d be dishonest about this

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 22, 2010 9:58 PM PDT up reply actions

He’s gotta be some fuckin idiot to not know ‘where the numbers were going’. Isn’t that part of his job? To anticipate what’s going to happen and, if necessary, act?

Now I’m not saying he’s lying about Teemu, I’m just saying he’s been wrong before.

There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.

by Natesaduck on Jul 22, 2010 10:20 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, he’s been wrong, but here he’s saying that they didn’t discuss a two-year deal. So, if you’re saying he’s “wrong” he’d have to be lying, as it’s something that’s already happened or not happened, not something he’s anticipating.

by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 22, 2010 10:29 PM PDT up reply actions

The only thing I’ve been hearing is that Teemu WANTS a two year deal. Whether he’s been discussing that with Murray or not is unconfirmed, but if Murray says they haven’t then we’re all left to assume they haven’t. That said, I would laugh my ass off if tomorrow they announce he’s signed a two year deal

There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.

by Natesaduck on Jul 22, 2010 10:43 PM PDT up reply actions

yeah, i was speaking as to what murray’s saying about the tweet for this particular fanpost, not on what you’ve heard. He’s particularly called out this tweet as having no legs. He doesn’t deny they would sign him to a two year deal, just says that this rumor that that’s what they’ve been discussing has no legs at all.

if we lose koivu oshie and berglund are FA’s next year and so is Erhoff

by Albert K on Jul 23, 2010 6:04 AM PDT up reply actions

I should have put a period. I meant if Koivu sucks balls or gets hurt or if we wanna dump him oshie and berglund are FAs…

by Albert K on Jul 23, 2010 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

Saku im talkin bout

by Albert K on Jul 23, 2010 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Saku wont be let go no matter how much he might (but most likely wont) “suck balls.” The guy gives 110% at at times last year seemed to be the only guy giving a fuck. The guy just does not quit. Also like I said above, Cancer is Saku’s bitch. You really want to give walking papers to a guy like that? I’d rathers fight Chuck Norris.

by Newport Rebel on Jul 23, 2010 5:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I couldn’t agree more. Saku is a badass, best 2 way forward we had last season by far.

by Mudhippy on Jul 23, 2010 5:31 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m on board to have Teemu next year, but I think this is the time when he should not only score as much as he can, but also mentor some of the young bucks that we have on team. I hate to reference another sport, but remember when Kareem Abdul Jabar retired and every place he went the other team would give him something and salute him for his contributions to the game. THAT is what Teemu should get this year. I huge send off by all teams thanking him for all that he has accomplished.

by on and on on Jul 22, 2010 9:30 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah. They should all let him score a hat trick in each game!

by Wooster11 on Jul 23, 2010 11:06 AM PDT up reply actions

He really was the prototype winger wing speed and skills. Damn when you watch his rookie year you swear you are watching NHL 10 set on easy. The guy just knew how to make people look really bad. I like to think (although its not true) that the butterfly was invented to keep the Fin from scoring so damn much. He does deserve a going away tribute in kind of the fashion the baseball’s Cal Ripken Jr. did. That guy saved baseball after the lockout. Teemu has done more for the game of hockey then I think he knows or will ever admit to.
