***Elmira Jackals Are Ducks' New ECHL Affiliate***
THE TELETYPE:
In a press conference today at the Buffalo Wild Wings at Horseheads on Route 64, the Elmira Jackals of the announced that they are the new ECHL partner of the Syracuse Crunch and the Anaheim Ducks. According to Lindsay Kramer of the Crunch Hockey Blog, the Jackals are also working toward finalizing a deal with the Binghamton Senators and parent club Ottawa, who were the club's affiliates last season. That would make the Jackals a dual affiliate team next season.
After partnering with Syracuse, Anaheim had to cut ties with its previous ECHL team in Bakersfield in order to find a club closer to the Crunch. The Elmira Jackals certainly fit the bill, having served as the Crunch affiliate in 2007-08 and sitting a mere two hour drive from the War Memorial in Syracuse.
Editor's Note: According to the team press release, after the press conference, wings were 45-cents. Awesome.

Cool I guess, sucks for California-inclusiveness though.
I’m not the smartest guy in the world. I don’t read books or know how "getting pregnant" works. I can’t promise nights filled with intellectual conversation, but if we’re walking past a chain-link fence, you can rest assured that I’m going to try and chew a hole through it.
I guess nobody is excited about this news, but it's kind of a big deal.
Having a real life AHL and ECHL affiliate is a big step towards proper development of our younger players. These guys get to come up in our system, not on the Marlies or in San Antonio. We’re going to be able to reap the benefits of this a few years down the road.

Definitely. And while only our goaltenders may see serious time in the ECHL, it’s a big deal for them to be able to call up players from only two hours away (by car) to make sure they have a solid roster every night. Playing on a winning team, or at least a team that won’t be overly harmed by our call ups, will benefit our AHL guys, even if they receive no direct benefits from a nearby ECHL franchise.

kind of good and bad.
I liked seeing some prospects at the Reign/Condors games I would go to as its only 20 minutes away (ontario I mean). Looks like that’s over.
The Jackals will be in town in February, but the best player you could see then is probably Cousineau? Not sure. Last year was unique as we didn’t have an AHL affiliate. No way prospects that good would ever be on our ECHL team otherwise. The Ducks were supposedly interested in setting up a minor league in the west this year. Maybe that will still happen.
