***Ducks Trade Wisniewski To Islanders***

Stay connected for news and updates

THE TELETYPE:
Anaheim announced today that they have traded defenseman James Wisniewski, who they also re-signed today, to the New York Islanders for a third round pick in 2011.  The Islanders have two (theirs and Colorado's), and have until June 1st to decide which they will transfer to Anaheim.  The Ducks did not formally announce Wisniewski's signing, waiting instead to announce the trade.

The Ducks acquired Wisniewski at the 2009 trade deadline in exchange for the expiring and pending UFA contract of Samuel Pahlsson.  The injury-prone defenseman was a fixture of the Hawks third pairing and played some power play time with the club.  With the Ducks, Wisniewski was given an increased role, but the sides could not see eye to eye on a contract renewal last season (recapped in this previous post).  Despite playing a healthy season at roughly the same performance he offered the Blackhawks, the sides remained far apart again this summer and were headed for arbitration until today's sign and trade.
