***Ducks Trade Wisniewski To Islanders***
THE TELETYPE:
Anaheim announced today that they have traded defenseman James Wisniewski, who they also re-signed today, to the New York Islanders for a third round pick in 2011. The Islanders have two (theirs and Colorado's), and have until June 1st to decide which they will transfer to Anaheim. The Ducks did not formally announce Wisniewski's signing, waiting instead to announce the trade.
The Ducks acquired Wisniewski at the 2009 trade deadline in exchange for the expiring and pending UFA contract of Samuel Pahlsson. The injury-prone defenseman was a fixture of the Hawks third pairing and played some power play time with the club. With the Ducks, Wisniewski was given an increased role, but the sides could not see eye to eye on a contract renewal last season (recapped in this previous post). Despite playing a healthy season at roughly the same performance he offered the Blackhawks, the sides remained far apart again this summer and were headed for arbitration until today's sign and trade.

So uhh… who do they replace him with? Bieksa? Sutton? Maybe even rush Fowler on the blueline?
Viva los Patos.
shooting into shin pads and telegraphing your shot no less. That really is the first day of pee wee hockey kind of stuff. I guess if you’re converted from forward you kind of skip those classes, but it’s so mickey mouse to see a professional player do that so blatantly so often.

Haha, true. As much as a fan favorite he was, he’s easily replaceable. Murray just better get on replacing real soon.
Viva los Patos.
Parros is a fan favorite, too. I don’t see anyone saying he needs 3.25M and a spot on the top line. I’d rather get a complete asshole of a personality who can actually play D than have the guy who sells a charity clothing line of booty shorts also be a top pairing defenseman. For 3.25M in the Top 4; we can do a lot better. We didn’t even give Lydman that much.

I guess Lupul is the likely candidate to take over the charity booty shorts market at the team store

Wow. I was definitely hoping for a sign and trade but I didn’t think anything would happen til at least tomorrow. I am very excited.

wow. You’re at the point where every time you don’t curse or say something negative, you have to say, “look Ma, no hands.” Just wow.

Seems like a trick
Are you saying you’ll post more substantive valuable comments, or you’ll stop posting anything valuable and substantive and just post gems like these consistently:

fuck this season and fuck the ducks players and management… cant wait for next season.. man the offseason wont come quickly enough!I find that last one particularly funny since you recently said that the only reason you were cursing and being negative is that it was the offseason.

Yes he is starting to worry me. He is reminding me of a certain someone on another blog.
Hint: I can’t stand him. :)

well, he actually is a younger kid. I dont’ know if everyone knows that. I certainly grew up with people that used profanity as a substitute for wit. So he comes off as cartoony to me, and as long as his rants don’t eat up a lot of the screen, i don’t mind it so much. But he’s starting to direct his anger at other commenters which is no good.

We understand.
That is why Arthur I believe is so hesitant to do anything.

My primary hesitation stems from the fact that Daniel had a rather lengthy rant of “fuck texas,” so I don’t think I’d be standing on the high road. Daniel, as a human being, is actually pretty full of hate, especially during games. But then we also have users like Natesaduck and SPADE that pepper in plenty of profanity, so I’m not 100% clear on what that would do to the community. He has yet to receive a single flag, so I don’t know that I’m seeing the repulsion in the current community that would warrant action on our part.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 30, 2010 9:18 PM PDT up reply actions
For the record, I’d have no problem with you guys enforcing a ban on profanity. I’ve been posting on the official message boards for years and they don’t allow profanity.
But until then, FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK :]
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
haha. We’ll revisit it when the community hits 500 members. We’re at something like 450 now. We’d still permit it in gamedays, which makes it a rule Daniel can still potentially follow….maybe.

I agree with what your saying.
I say lets wait and see how things are going when we hit 500 and when we hit the midway point of the season or the All star game.

Hey when you have a shirt with FOWL in the store, well it doesn’t put you on the high road to saying no cursing. I mean FOWL basically is cursing.

Yep def.
I very much dislike the uncontrollable cursing. I mean if you look close enough into the word UNCONTROLLABLE you find the word Troll lol. (ok just saw that while typing lol).

that’s another thing holding me back. Sleek just started cursing ABOVE the comment line. I’m not better than Sleek. None of us are.

whats the difference with above the comment line and not? Not sure why that would make the difference.
I think there is a guideline for it that could be set that isn’t say it and your banned. but like you said above to be revisited at a later date.

above the comment line, I edit. Everyone’s piece comes through me for clarity, spelling, etc. And so there’s some vague pressure not to use the four letter words, probably because the body of a post is why people come to the blog. I think Sleek’s been at this over three years and his first f-bomb in a post happened during this last season.
Basically, I curse in the comments, I type extremely fast and never spellcheck what I say and a lot of it is convoluted. But they’re comments, so I don’t really think of them as worthy of editing. Everything above the comment line is different to me for that same reason.

I’m pretty sure that’s not true — I don’t swear a bunch, but my only real rule I think is to try to keep the post titles somewhat decent. And maybe I’ll put state rapes after a jump.

I just want to say
I’m happy for James Wisniewski. Hopefully this doesn’t hurt his career and he can still be a good second or third pairing guy and special teams guy in the East. It was a little unfair for Murray to expect so much from him, and to then be disappointed in him. It would be like Shrek being horrified when Fiona stayed an ogre at the end of Shrek.

haha. I won’t be “happy” until there’s a functioning blueline. I’m “happy” for Wisniewski though. Guy deserves a lot less in terms of ridiculous expectation, and he got both his money and a spot on a team where he can shine. Murray is just as likely to put that 3M into Wisniewski Part 2: Electric Boogaloo, though, so I can’t go with “happy” just yet.

It came from a very tinfoil place, though. My mind was clouded with fear, and I wasn’t analyzing what Murray was doing at all, just hoping for the best.

The only thing that concerns me is that it’s a “conditional” pick from what I’ve read. Not sure what the conditions are to the pick…
From Katie Strang of the NYI when the news broke…
Breaking: The Islanders have traded a conditional third-round pick in 2011 for Anaheim defenseman James Wisniewski
NHL.com, which usually reports the conditions very accurately, reports this as a conditional trade, not a trade involving a conditional pick. If Wisniewski does not pass his physical on Sunday, there is no trade. If there were a conditional pick, I have to think it would be mentioned on NHL.com as they’ve diligently reported all conditions in the past.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 30, 2010 6:26 PM PDT up reply actions
Isles have 2 3rd round picks in that draft
The Ducks get the lower of the 2
I sure we use that pick in an offer sheet or that were going to do something big… Where is the defense?
So I’m sure we are going to be using this pick in another trade so as long as we get a good defenseman out of it I’m happy. I am glad we don’t have Wiz anymore because he was too big a liability on the blueline. For every time he scored or assisted he probably caused 2 more goals against us. So I don’t think he was as good as some people think, but the fact is SOME people out there think he’s good. I think we probably should have gotten more for him. Maybe I’m just greedy but how about max return on our investments ya know?
pending UFA sammy, though. And Wiz wasn’t terribly valuable to us and may have gotten too much at arbitration, which would have forced us to walk away with nothing. So, all in all, not bad. We probably would’ve been better off letting Sammy walk and spending the money on Beauchemin, though, if it puts ‘getting our money’s worth’ into perspective.
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 30, 2010 7:33 PM PDT up reply actions
I was pretty ticked off when we didn’t pull the trigger on signing Beauchemin. What could have been…
On a side note, I think we should trade Jason Blake back to Toronto for Beauch. Toronto is overstocked with D and need a top 6 forward and we need D and would be ok without Blake. Just an unrelated thought that crossed my mind.
Though I’m sure it wouldn’t work because they will want to get rid of Kaberle before they give up Beauch and they prob don’t want Blake back especially at his price tag. . . But a guy can dream can’t he??
by DucksCup6607 on Jul 30, 2010 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t know about taking Blake back. He let us pick our poison between Blake and Finger, so I think he has no affinity for those two contracts.

All the Duck fans should be saying that now! Well, for this weekend at least. It’s pretty rare for something to happen over the weekend :p
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
Kovalchuk doesn’t get resolved until middle or end of next week, though, so depending on how many of the Ducks’ competing bidders are tied up in the Kovalchuk love triangle, it may be next monday not this monday
by Arthur from Anaheim Calling on Jul 30, 2010 9:44 PM PDT up reply actions
Ah come on! Now that I know when something will probably happen, it’s going to take even longer to get there for me. As uneventful as this offseason has been, it’s been going by quicker than normal for me because I’m not really expecting much to happen. But now that I know there’s something to expect, I’m fucked.
There's nothing to see here. And nothing gazes back at me.
NEXT!
Nobody beats the Wiz! Except when he plays arbitration or bust….Murray could be redeeming himself to all of us haters….I’ll be watching…kind of cool to see it on live TV first…on vacation in Edmonton! Never happen at home…
Murray's Strategy
I like the idea of four forwards and one D man… Bob Murray, always on the cutting edge.
