Training Camp Roster/Schedule

ARTHUR:
The Ducks released their training camp schedule and preliminary roster yesterday. The roster contains one currently injured player (Joffrey Lupul), one pro tryout (Joe DiPenta) and of course, one unsigned player (...he-who-shall-not-be-signed...). The third goalie in the camp depth chart is J.P. Levasseur, but both Timo PIelmeier and Marco Cousineau will participate in the rookie tournament in Penticton, which concludes only a few days before training camp begins on Saturday, September 18th.

...training camp begins on Saturday, September 18th.

Pielmeier and other rookies will likely be funneled into the final training camp roster in the intervening days. We'll have gameday threads for the Ducks games during the rookie tourney if you want to get your GDT on while watching the webcast.

Query from the gentleman from Syracuse...

What are the odds that Chipchura and/or Festerling crack the roster out of camp? How deep are the Ducks at center?

In theory, the Ducks are thin at Top 6 center. When Koivu and Getzlaf were injured, they tried to use Ryan Carter and then even Bobby Ryan. With them waiving Carter (though ultimately keeping him), there’s definitely this idea that they will be grooming their next Top 6 center, which could be Bonino. They may also give Deschamps a look, but a skill center may get a Bottom 6 spot. And the third line center actually looks pretty deep, with the team playing Marchant and Chipcura together, but giving Chipchura the pivot spot. That could change out of camp, but they seemed to really like Chipchura last season.

As far as Festerling, he’s found work trying to give the Ducks what they need, replacing an injured Beauchemin in Niedermayer’s pairing and then trying to bring some third pairing grit last season. Ultimately, though, he doesn’t excel to an NHL level at any one thing, and I don’t know if he’s fully bought into Carlyle’s puck management. It might be too late to change these things, and he isn’t a draft pick the way Mikkelson is, so I could see him getting sent down again for minor mistakes. Depending on how ugly the blueline looks, he might make it to the scratch list, but he doesn’t seem to have much leeway with the bench or the front office right now.

On the ducks website they will have a webcast of all three rookie games.

We talked about it in a news post a couple of posts ago. Adam Brady announced the games would be webcast. All three he said via email, though his blog post only says two of the three.

whether chipchura is center or not he should def be on the roster. good penalty killer and he plays the game hard. i like festerling but how much of his good play was a result of scotty. first time in awhile there is real signifigance on training camp with a decent amount of rookies possibly making the team
