***Ducks Re-assign Twelve***
THE TELETYPE:
Anaheim announced today that it has re-assigned 12 players from its Training Camp roster:
Assigned to Syracuse (AHL)
Nick Bonino – Center
Rob Bordson – Left wing
Mat Clark – Defenseman
Nicolas Deschamps – Left wing
Joe DiPenta – Defenseman
Brandon McMillan – Left wing/center
Mark Mitera – Defenseman
Kyle Palmieri – Right wing
Assigned to Junior Team
Emerson Etem – Right wing (Medicine Hat/WHL)
Peter Holland – Center (Guelph/OHL)
Devante Smith-Pelly – Right wing (Mississauga/OHL)
Scott Valentine – Defenseman (Oshawa/OHL)
Of the Junior re-assignments, Etem and Smith-Pelly are June '92 births, who will not be eligible to leave the CHL for the AHL for another two seasons. Valentine and Holland are both 19 year-olds returning for their last year in the OHL, though Valentine returns as a 6th rounder who looked impressive but still wasn't signed after camp.
Of the AHL re-assignments, DiPenta will play under his one-way AHL contract after failing to earn a contract with Anaheim. Meanwhile, Palmieri, McMillan, Deschamps, and Bordson all look to get their first taste at pro hockey with the Crunch, while defensemen Mark Mitera and Matt Clark embark on their first full AHL season. Perhaps the only player on the list that comes as a surprise is Nick Bonino, who played nine games with the Ducks last season, potting his first goal and assist. Many suspected he might get a longer look before heading to Syracuse, but his level of play and the move of Bobby Ryan to center probably made that unrealistic; the Ducks are already carrying five NHL-experienced centers on the roster in Koivu, Getzlaf, Carter, Chipchura and Marchant.
Anaheim now has 21 forwards, 11 defensemen and five goaltenders remaining on its roster.

I think signing him to a contract pretty much guaranteed he would see the first 8 games of the season. And that’s a courteous act for a guy who’s spent the year preparing to be drafted to a team high enough to afford him that courtesy.

The future?
So…
I’m thinking…
Bonino’s got a better shot next year when Carter Chipchurra and Marchant or FA’s , with Chip being the only RFA. He can be first option for an injury call up, perhaps. Just hoping it’s not for Getz like last season. I liked him last year. Big body. Getz mold, kinda.
DiPenta… yeah, I don’t think so. Don’t think he’s what we’re looking for.
Mitera is looking like a ‘next year’ kinda guy too.
Etem and Smith-Peley, probably 2012ish, though I’m hoping to see Etem sooner rather than later, but I’d rather see a seasoned Etem than one learning on the job.
Holland though, is a question mark. With the depth at C… where would he go? Maybe a Defensive forward, a la Pahlsson? But even next year might be tough. Still got Getz, Koivu, and possibly Bonino. 2012, perhaps? Still young. If Etem or DSP can switch to the other wing in the AHL in the next year or two, perhaps they can with this trio what they did with Getz, Perry, and Penner. Season them in the AHL, and bring them up as a unit.
Just thinking.
I dont’ think I’ve ever been this excited for our prospects, ever. Or maybe I’m just playing more attention… but I like the future. And with Fowler… the future could be now for him. We have about 2 or 3 guys here that can be top 6 forwards in the future. Especially next year when we hang #8 in rafters.
Holland has always been a well-positioned player defensively and he’s okay along the boards and one on one, but he’s not instinctively a checker at all. A lot of people see him as top 6 or bust. Assuming it stays that way after this season, I think the Ducks would leave him in the AHL until a spot opens up; they properly avoided starting Dan Sexton as a fourth liner, so I have faith they won’t just plug someone into a bad situation like what happened with Ryan Shannon

I feel the same way.
I dont’ think I’ve ever been this excited for our prospects, ever.
These guys were fun to watch, even in the short time they were here. I think Arthur and Daniel are going to have their hands full when they rewrite the top 20 prospects roster.

I should have noted that
Trevor Smith and Josh Green remain with the team. I suppose they’re valuable if Carlyle wants to rest veterans, but if they’re still around after the road trip and as things get going in Syracuse, then I won’t know what to make of that exactly.

So what are the lines looking like?
SC1: Belesky – Getz – Perry
SC2: – Ryan – Selanne
SC3: Blake – Koivu
NRG: Voros- Marchant- Parros
Is this about right?
I'd guess chip
As the fourth line center instead of marchant

these were the lines from practice yesterday according to Zupke:
Matt Beleskey-Ryan Getzlaf-Corey PerryI’d say move Marchant to Macenauer’s spot, Chipchura to Marchant’s, then Velleux gets replaced by one of Bodie or Carter if he can’t make the team, Voros goes to the scratch and Sharp, Mace, Green and Smith go to New York.
Dan Sexton-Saku Koivu-Jason Blake
Maxime Macenauer-Bobby Ryan-Teemu Selanne
George Parros-Todd Marchant-Stephane Veilleux
Troy Bodie-Ryan Carter-Kyle Chipchura
Trevor Smith-MacGregor Sharp-Aaron Voros-Josh Green

Interesting...
I like the second line.
I keep thinking Sexton got sent to the Crunch. But it was actually Bonino. i like Big Sexy with Koivu and Blake. Of course, I think I like Selanne there more, but with 3 forward lines, this looks good. I don’t know about M&M with #8 and #9.
Marchant is better off as a center. I think he was the team leader in faceoff wins last season, so I can’t see him on the wing with 8 and 9. I can’t see him centering 8 either in any capacity. He has to be the 4th line center, PK, and defensive center specialists. The rest of the 4th line will be grinders, for sure. Parros, and Bodie/Chipchura most likely.
I’m very very interested in the open wing spot next to 8 and 9. should be interesting. Maybe Carter. He had flashes before he broke his arm in that freak accident a year or so ago.
This’ll probably be Marchants last year. Next year will be Koivu’s. Then we open the door for Bonino, then Holland. In that Order. With Bonino being the injury call up this year. That is some serious depth….
