Parise Rumors?

A buddy and I are always talking about if the Ducks somehow landed Parise what it could do for our team. Well, Ducks might have a chance. There are rumblings in NJ-land that Parise might not want to come back to NJD. In Lou We Trust, the GM is throwing a trade possibility that the deal must have 4 first rounders. But looking at their cap situation after the Kovalchuk signing, I really don't think beggars can be choosers right now.

Currently, Parise has a cap hit of 3.125 million according to capgeek.com. NJ will have a little over 7.3 million available to resign Parise after this season. The 7.3 is tied up with Arnott and Langenbrunner which might retire after this season which will give NJD more flexibility to resign Parise. But NJD is in some deep trouble looking into the situation deeper. Parise is the only bargaining chip for future of the franchise. If they do not deal Parise they have nothing until the cap opens up some time after 2012-2013 season.

The Ducks might have a track to sign because Bobby played with Parise in the Olympics. Sadly to say that this is probably Shamu's last season, but Shamu's retirement opens up the cap to sign Parise. The Ducks core (Getz, Perry, Lupul, Hiller, Lydman, Visnovsky) is locked up for 3 more years.

The Ducks have some prospects and can throw some picks NJ way. Keep in mind that NJD will probably have to settle for less because of Kovalchuk, agey veterans, and the cap situation. What are some possibilities the Ducks could come up with to land Parise?

Do you mean long term, or as a loaner?

by Daniel AC on Jan 3, 2011 6:04 PM PST reply actions

Long term would be nice...

If its going to cost multiple picks…

But what is long term for the Ducks, 5 years? I think there is a ton of options here because the huge screw up with the kovalchuk deal in which they lost a pick from. Also, because of the agey veterans with high salaries that are almost impossible to get decent picks for.

Sorry for keeping it somewhat vague but I wanted to see what everyone came up with for a possible trade or offer sheet.

In a sign and trade scenario, I don’t think the Ducks can make it happen. It’s at least two first round picks and a serious forward prospect like Palmieri or Smith-Pelley. I guess my offer would be the two first round picks, Peter Holland, and maybe a D prospect.

But, I think the Ducks should pay more attention to the blue line right now. There will be more affordable forward options than Parise this summer who can provide solid second line depth without running our youngsters out of town.

by Daniel AC on Jan 4, 2011 7:54 AM PST up reply actions

Yes I agree there is more affordable alternatives out there.. But I am almost willing to give up 2 first rounders for Parise if we had two stud centers in Getz and Parise. I think you nailed it with 2 First (actually 3 first).. but the deciding factor is the 4th player or pick. I think NJD will max out at 3 first rounders as an offer because of the situation they are in.. but hey theres always one GM that is willing to throw it all out there…

Parise isn’t a center. He’s a left winger.

God-fucking-damn you for being wrong at any point ever.

Glad my dabbles in Hollywoodland died before I turned 21.

If his argument is that Parise can center the second line and is therefore worth the cost, then it’s a little important to know that Parise isn’t a center.

by Daniel AC on Jan 6, 2011 10:13 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah I think he can play center even though hes a winger but it is a risk if hes going to be paid 5 plus mill … but it is still something to think about since NJ looks to be looking to unload some guys

Can one team make more than one RFA offer to the same player?

by Scottyknow on Jan 27, 2011 12:31 PM PST up reply actions

what do you mean? Like a two contracts that average two different salaries and the player picks one?

by Daniel AC on Jan 27, 2011 6:46 PM PST up reply actions

If Parise actually wants out, then Ducks would prefer a trade then a offer sheet I think. I don’t think they plan to go into complete rebuilding mode, so they would probably want players as well as picks. NJ really needs a scoring threat on the blue line, but we don’t really have one to spare. Mara has some offensive upside, but his 1 year contract would be a deterrent in this case. That leaves prospects and pics. I’m not overly familiar with our defensive prospects in the AHL, but I don’t see us moving Fowler or even Sbisa.

the devils cannot afford to trade parise. he is the heart and soul of that team and with broduer on the decline he is the face and hope of that franchise. i have season tix to the devils and would love to see their attendance if they dealt him. the only way i see this happening is if parise says to lou i will no resign no matter what and then it becomes one of those deals right before the draft. as much as i would want him, i dont see us getting him

by Joe Holub on Jan 4, 2011 10:41 AM PST reply actions

Yeah… Parise is a class act, leader, and great player. Hes one of my favorite players in the league because of that reason. Any team will want him. But there looks to be some big problems in NJD and if there is a possibility of getting a guy like Parise for cheaper than we would normally get a player of his caliber then give it a try….

by ShamuSalami on Jan 4, 2011 12:31 PM PST up reply actions

LA has the room and prospects to do it .. Kings would be good for a long time if they land Parise

by ShamuSalami on Jan 4, 2011 3:58 PM PST up reply actions

If the Devils lose Zach Parise Lou is gone.

langerbrunner was scratched from tonights game because he is about to be traded. doubt it has anything to do with us but let the fire sale begin

by Joe Holub on Jan 6, 2011 8:18 PM PST reply actions

already starting the race towards the draft

by ShamuSalami on Jan 6, 2011 8:42 PM PST up reply actions

the draft wont help them because i thought in their fine from the nhl in the first failed kovlachuck deal, they had to give up their first round pick this year. i could be wrong though

by Joe Holub on Jan 7, 2011 3:18 PM PST reply actions

They’ll lose a first round pick but probably not this years.

Parise

don’t really understand why they had to get kovy so bad i mean they had a pretty good team
they were in the playoffs …think they should have just build the future around Parise

by respatsde2 on Jan 23, 2011 1:20 AM PST reply actions

Lou had already dealt so much to Atlanta for Kovy as a rental. It would be a waste if he was unable to re-sign him. I think it was more about reputation more than anything. So much for that. haha
