Your Friendly Friday Links Roundup: The Does Henry Samueli Want To Buy The (Sacramento) Kings? Edition
KRISTEN:
The cancellation of the entire NBA season is beginning to look like an (unfortunate) reality, but it seems as though Ducks owner Henry Samueli is already looking to the future...
- According to ProBasketballTalk, Samueli "really, really, really" wants to relieve the Maloofs of their ownership duties. However, his questionable financial past does not make him a desirable candidate for ownership. [ProBasketballTalk]
- The Ducks will wear a #24 patch on all three of their jerseys this year to honor Ruslan Salei. [OC Register]
- Karen Francis from On The Duck Pond writes about her experiences as a member of the Ducks' Road Crew (Player meet and greets! Reindeer! Side trips to Estonia!). [On The Duck Pond]
- Anaheim Ice will host the USC hockey team's home opener tonight (versus Washington State). Be there AND be square. Puck drops at 8:30 pm (but come for the USC Fan Fest, which starts at 6:30 pm). [Anaheim Ducks]
- Sabres fans are rejoicing in their victory. Enjoy it while it lasts, guys. [Die By The Blade]
- TSN recaps the game: [TSN] [TSN Boxscore]
- Vanessa Lam (a figure skater who trains at Anaheim and Westminster Ice) won the gold medal at the Junior Grand Prix in Austria. Let's hope she becomes the next big thing. Figure skating hasn't been the same since Michelle Kwan left... [Anaheim Ducks]
- The Ducks played pond hockey on Wednesday in Helsinki. Read the story and watch the video. [Anaheim Ducks]
- Copper and Blue predicts the final standings for the 2011-2012 season. They expect the Ducks to finish 3rd in the Pacific Division, and 9th in the Western Conference, thus barely missing the playoffs. They also refer to our bottom 6 and bottom 2 defensive pairings as "absolute dreck." Thoughts? [The Copper and Blue]
- More Western Conference predictions. (In this version, we make the playoffs!) [CSN Chicago]
- The Anaheim Ducks Towel invades Cal State Long Beach. [Anaheim Ducks Towel Invasions]
- SK gives you the #1 reason why hockey is better than baseball. [Ducks and Pucks]
- Teemu Selanne is one of the most interesting players in the NHL. (As if we didn't know that already.) [The Cheap Seats]

Why can’t Samueli just relieve Donald Sterling of his ownership duties with the help of David Stern? Oh well, I guess the ice surface will be marginally better (than it would be with an NBA team) at Ponda Center for a few more seasons.

Acquiring a basketball team, might actually help the Ducks…maybe. The guaranteed TV money from an NBA team might be enough to help the overall bottom line of operating both teams and result in an internal budget boost for the Ducks. It would take some creative accounting, which I’m sure Samueli knows how to do.
Yep
Acquiring an NBA team would be nothing but good news for the Ducks. It gets more people into the arena on a regular basis, and since the Samuellis own Honda Center as well as the Ducks, more money in Honda Center means a greater overall pool of funds for the Samuellis to draw from. Depending on how things shake out, three Anaheim teams (Angels, Ducks, and NBA team) could also result in some kind of new channel that would be even more favorable to the Ducks.

Exactly . . .
The (LA) Kings have been sponging off of the Lakers since Staples Center opened and while an Anaheim NBA team wouldn’t be the Lakers, it still helps sell all-event club seats and suites!
All Anaheim sports channel? The Pac-12 network launches next year, so if this happens, my sports life will be complete.
