Jeff Carter
There were rumors circulating recently that Jeff Carter asked to be traded from Columbus. The rumors were squashed by Carter and his GM right away, but if there was anything behind rumors and the Ducks actually were interested in acquiring Carter, (which I know is a long shot to say the least and would probably lead to the departure of Bobby Ryan) I was wondering what everyone thinks about possibly trading for Carter? Below is Carter's SB Nation scouting report and some positives and negatives that I see if the deal went through. What do you think?

My thoughts on the deal:
Positives:
Jeff Carter is and has been very strong in the face-off dot his whole career.
He has scored more than 30 goals the past 3 seasons(46,33,36), and 29 the season before those....he puts the puck in the back of the net, something that we are currently struggling with.
Carter is also a great penalty killer and will bring some toughness to a club that desperately needs it.
Negatives:
Like I mentioned earlier we would most likely have to part with Bobby Ryan unless Murray can work some magic, and the Samueli's raise the club's internal salary cap. However, both are VERY unlikely to happen. Carter doesn't have the skill of Bobby and I know that a lot of us Ducks fans are very attached to Bobby and do not want to see him go.

I love his talent and potential, but I don’t think the Ducks need another guy who won’t give his all every night. And his contract is supremely inflated and extremely long.
He needs to go somewhere we he can be featured, while also having a realistic chance to win a Cup and party.

haha had to throw in the “and party” lol… He’s definitely going crazy in Ohio without his wingman Mike Richards

With Richards right up the road, the last thing we need is Carter.

Ryan is a top talent (or will be down the road)
Carter isn’t enough for me to want to move Ryan. Now Webber on the other hand…
Couldn’t agree with you more when it comes to Weber

Where would he play, third line center? This wouldn’t make any sense to me unless you are talking about a blockbuster involving getz

No I was thinking put him as the second line center and move Koivu down to the third line with Hagman or Cogliano…remember Jason Blake will be back in January too so our lines are going to change. Our top 3 lines would be much more balanced, we would be better in the faceoff dot, and ideally Carlyle would start rolling the third line more so our top 2 lines would actually be fresh and who knows Getz might actually start skating hard all the time, but this would involve Carlyle changing the way he manages his club so I just don’t see it happening.

I guess, dealing Ryan means we would have some pretty big holes on the wing though. I like carter as a player but I think this team has way bigger needs than another center unless you are talking about moving getzlaf.
If Ryan goes, I’d much rather it is for a true top pairing defenseman as someone suggested above

Carter played a lot of wing while in Philly.

I was going to comment the exact same thing. He is essentially a winger playing centre, and pretty much the same player as Ryan, with a little more experience and less maturity. Trading for him would be redundant, except for the fact that we would have an all 2003 draftee line.

If we were going to do this move, we should have done it over the summer, when we could have moved more money. Carter is an improvement over Ryan, but only because he can play center and win face-offs. Otherwise, they’re kind of similar players. It just feels like not a lot would change.

His salary never gets too high though. Would be a shake up in the least. Has anyone consider Getzlaf for Carter? That way we’re not creating a log jam for our young centers coming up. We’d lose a play maker for a scorer really but Holland could be our play making center in the future. Carter at least wins FO which helps us. It would also change the look of the team and top line. I’m pretty sure I have said it before, but i believe the game keeps getting faster and it is leaving Carlyles system and Getzlaf in particular behind.
I don’t think Holland will ever be a 90-100 point guy like Getzlaf is, or is supposed to be. I think Holland’s ceiling hovers around 75-80, or what people considered of Perry before he broke out last year. Getzlaf is a one of a kind player, who has numerous awards and distinctions to his name, and unless we are getting an entire package of plays that can help the club, I don’t think trading him is the answer. As much as we all love to rag on him, he is potentially our best player.

Getzlaf has passed 90 points once. I was speaking more to the style of a player rather then how good they were. When building a team you want to compliment the players on each line. Talent doesn’t necessarily translate to success. Look at our top line right now. Arguably one of the best lines in the league based on talent. They have combined 35 points and a -20 between the 3 of them. 19 of those are special teams. Weiss Fleischmen and Versteeg have 66 between the 3 of them playing for Florida, 22 on special teams. NONE of those players have ever been touted has players of Getzlafs or Perrys calibur. Versteeg was in the running with Ryan for rookie of the year and Fleischmen played burried in Washington for years. But they compliment each other. My argument is that Holland may be able to complement Ryan or Perry like Getzlaf does now. At the moment Getzlaf isn’t a 90-100 point guy hes a 50 point guy if he can stay healthy. I know the whole team is struggling, but I just don’t think Getlafs style of play is translating into the new NHL. The game is getting faster and faster and his game is slow. We hear about how Getzlaf likes to slow the game down and that is one of his strengths, I think what we are seeing is that ability starting to fade as the rest of league works on building a faster game.
Mike Richards
Mike Richards seems to be tearing up the scoresheets in Los Angeles lately. He looks to be comfortable without the burden of the captaincy and it seems like every time I turn on a Kings highlight package, I see that he has scored or assisted on a goal. He seems to score the gritty, timely goals that a team needs to get wins, and beyond that, he looks more energized than ever. So I was just wondering, – and this is a hypothetical – if you were Bob Murray this summer, and Richards was offered for Ryan Getzlaf, would you take the deal?

No. Part of the reason he is doing so well is that Kopitar is there. If we were offered Richards for Holland and a pick, I’d take it.

maybe but its not just his point scoring youd be paying for. he also looks like an on ice leader, and he plays pretty well both ways…the goals he prevents, might make up for (supposed) drop in production from a getzlaf.
As for carter…..he works better in fantasy hockey for me. not someone i would want on this team.
However Weiss…..? might be a possibility for not a huge amount
