Trading Post - Bobby Ryan

With all of the proposed deals popping up in all of the stories and FanPosts regarding Bobby (and other players), I decided now would be a good opportunity to make a FanPost dedicated just for Bobby Ryan deals. I know Robby might hate this thread, but at least this way nothing is overlooked and everything is centralized.

My proposed trade is below:

Star-divide

To New York:

Bobby Ryan - Left Wing, $5.1M cap hit, locked up through 2014-2015

Late Round Pick

To Anaheim:

Dan Girardi - Defence, $3.325M cap hit, locked up through 2013-2014

Brian Boyle - Centre, $1.7M cap hit, locked up through 2013-2014

Brandon Prust - Winger, $800K cap hit, Unrestricted at season's end

Prospect

This would be a good deal for both teams as Anaheim fills a few much needed vacancies in a third-line checking centre (who is also 6'7), a checking winger who can play in penalty kill situations and a bruising defenseman who can log serious minutes. Although now may not be the time to propose this deal to New York, as Girardi logs all of Staal's minutes while he is injured, if the Ducks continue this trend of losing and a major shake-up is needed, I think this trade helps both teams.

For New York, they get a tier-one winger to play with Richards. As well - and as I mentioned in another post - Bobby plays closer to his home-state of New Jersey, he plays with a marquee centre, and he plays for a coach that gets the most out of his players.

*EDIT: I have included cap numbers courtesy of capgeek.com

Cap number summary: the Ducks take on an additional $725,000 of salary this year, and have the option to re-sign Brandon Prust. If Prust is not re-signed, the Ducks save an average of $75,000 through 2013-2014 by shedding Ryan's contract.

I think that’s an overpay for a team that has a pair of tier one wingers in Callahan and Gaborik. I once proposed Marc Staal for Bobby Ryan straight up. If Staal hadn’t been indefinitely knocked loopy by his brother Eric, I still think it’s a good deal for us. Of course, I’d take Jordan Staal too.

If he was healthy, I would LOVE to get Marc Staal. I think he would fit in perfectly

I would also be in favour of Marc Staal, but I think NYR values him more than we value Bobby. And IMO it would be better for the Ducks to acquire multiple bodies when trading a fringe-superstar like Bobby because Ducks management is unable to surround superstars with complimentary pieces (as Daniel noted the other day: we are the Calgary Flames).

I don’t honk multiple bodies is a huge deal. Actually, I think we should limit bodies, lest Murray be convinced that quantity equals quality.

I think a deal where the Ducks get an equally impactful player, but shake up the locker room is the right choice.

If Nashville thinks that they won't be able to sign Suter and they are willing to part with him, along with Craig Smith I would like to see this deal:

Bobby Ryan
Luca Sbisa
Brandon McMillan

Ryan Suter
Patrick Hornqvist
Craig Smith

Here is the Capgeek trade machine link that shows all the salaries:
http://capgeek.com/trade_machine.php?team1=6&team2=19&date=2011-11-21&team-6-players[]=314&team-6-players[]=1758&team-6-players[]=755&team-19-players[]=1058&team-19-players[]=2101&team-19-players[]=1044&CompleteTradeButton=

We would be actually dump around 600,000 after the move is completed. Suter is an UFA after this season, but we will have the money to sign him to a long term deal after this season. Blake’s and Hagman’s deal expire, and so does Teemu’s but I’m sure he will re-sign : ). Craig Smith’s entry level deal expires after the 2012-13 season. Hornqvist’s current deal also ends after the 2012-13 season and he has a cap hit of 3,083,333 this season and next season.

i think hell would have to freeze over for nashville to do that deal

by dontmesswiththestache on Nov 21, 2011 8:37 PM PST up reply actions

Forget Nashville, that’s a bad deal for us. Bobby and Sbisa for what is only a guaranteed rental is bad business. If it was Weber, then at least there’s the promise of one more season or a sweet package of picks when he signs his RFA deal.

by Daniel AC on Nov 22, 2011 10:57 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

Ya I would only do this deal if we could for sure sign Suter right away like we did with Cogs or maybe even pull off a sign and trade but I realize both of those are a stretch kind of like this proposal but I just want me some Suter or Weber…man I miss Pronger

by Ramsrnumerouno on Nov 22, 2011 3:30 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

If we are that committed to Suter, I don’t see why we wouldn’t just wait until he hits the market.

A crazy trade I thought of today was Gomez, Subban and a first rounder for Getzlaf. I’m normally not for trading Getzie, but this could work for us. If they’d take Bobby instead of Getzlaf we should 100% do it.

by Daniel AC on Nov 22, 2011 4:13 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

We would be taking to much salary on that deal. Throw in Blake to even out salary and I might like the deal

by DavidBL on Nov 22, 2011 4:32 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

I’m just worried about the open market because if Lidstrom doesn’t return to Detroit they are going to do everything in their power to land Suter and I really do not want to see that. Also, I do not think Murray has added any big UFA’s since his regime began (no offense to Lydman, he is very solid but not an elite d-man).

I would definitely be down for that deal with Montreal but would like to try and pry Plekanec from Montreal instead of Gomez, but I think Gomez is a lot more realistic and I would definitely eat that contract for Subban.

Another guy I was thinking about is Byfuglien, but he just signed a new deal so idk about that one.

by Ramsrnumerouno on Nov 22, 2011 4:33 PM PST up reply actions

If you’re worried about the en market now, there’s no reason to think the Ducks would be able to sign him while he’s visiting.

Personally, I think getting Subban might be its own fleecing, and between him and Perry the hate of our team would be astronomical. It’s tooling money now, and maybe they take Blake just to unload Gomez, but I think a deal like this is doable, and if they’d take Bobby instead I’d leap at it.

Bobby and Blake

For Gomez, Subban and a first or second round pick. Somebody hire me.

by Daniel AC on Nov 22, 2011 5:22 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

Although that deal doesn’t seem fair on the part of Montreal, I wouldn’t put it past Pierre Gauthier to pull the trigger.

IMO, I think Montreal would keep Subban in any deal with the Ducks except for one that would include either Getzlaf or Perry, so I think he’s an unrealistic option. Instead, I think the Ducks should target Nathan Beaulieu or Jarred Tinordi. Beaulieu is currently ranked #1 in the Canadiens system, to Tinordi’s #5, but I would say Tinordi would be the better fit. He’s a big, physical d-man (listed as 6’6), and I think he could potentially be a good fit with Fowler. If I were Bob, I’d propose a deal akin to this:

Montreal gets:
Bobby Ryan, Matt Beleskey, late-round pick

Anaheim gets:
Jarred Tinordi, Lars Eller/Ryan White, Scott Gomez, second round pick

by JuMowbray on Nov 22, 2011 5:33 PM PST up reply actions

I do like the sound of Tinordi. He reminds me of a certain defenseman we used to have play for us, just a little bit.

If we’re shooting for prospects I guess the question is, how many more weeks of these performances until we go into seller mode?

by bhlloy on Nov 22, 2011 7:35 PM PST up reply actions

On the contrary, those 2 D you listed might be the reason he’s expendable. The Canadiens need size up front, and Bobby does that. On top of that, dumping Gomez’s contract is a gift from the hockey gods. The cap space is much more valuable to a team that can spend to the limit. I think Bobby can get this deal done.

by Daniel AC on Nov 22, 2011 8:36 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

Gomez? The guy who is doing so poorly it’s epic? Yeah he’d fit right in.

He's fancy. He'll go glove.

by brokenyard on Nov 23, 2011 3:26 AM PST up reply actions

I thi k bein in a low pressure market would do wonders for Gomez’s career. More importantly, his contract isn’t too bad for us the last two years. The guy isn’t playing awfully, he just isn’t scoring. There’s a difference. He can still dish the puck.

by Daniel AC on Nov 23, 2011 5:37 AM PST via mobile up reply actions

I don’t know man I think it’s a pretty fair trade…if anything we might have to add a high draft pick but they are getting Bobby for a very reasonable price considering they might not get anything for Suter if he walks and Sbisa is a very young talented d-man that still has a lot of potential and has already showed he is capable of playing at a high level…I could understand them not wanting to part with Smith because of his potential but I think this is a strong enough package for them to pull the trigger. Hornqvist’s trade value might be a little high right now because of his hot start, but if he is the deal breaker I wouldn’t remind replacing him with Halischuk

by Ramsrnumerouno on Nov 21, 2011 9:07 PM PST reply actions

I’d be disappointed not to get a top pairing defenseman back for Bobby, but they don’t grow on trees. I’d certainly jump on any deal involving Staal, Suter or Subban but I’m not sure how realistic any of those three are.

If we can’t get that I’d like to see us shoot for a good defenseman prospect who can come through and play with Fowler/Sbisa in a couple years. Reload and let’s try and have a real shot at being a contender. Sorry Teemu.

The more days go by, the more I absolutely hate the Beauchemin trade. I was just watching the Leafs game and although Gardiner took four minor penalties, he ended up a +4 with two assists. Not only that, the “throw-in” Lupul scored once more to bring his season totals up to 11 goals and 26 points, on in other words, the same amount of points Getzlaf and Perry have combined.

Goddamnit Bob!

A lot of people were so happy to see him go, but I’d rather have Joffrey than Bobby.

by Daniel AC on Nov 22, 2011 8:33 PM PST via mobile up reply actions

I wouldn’t go that far but it’s clear we overspent for Beauchemin, made a million times worse by the fact he could/should have been on our roster all along.

Lupul needed a change of scenery and I don’t think he ever was a Carlyle favorite, but to give him and Gardiner up for a guy on the backside of his career, just for a shot at a first round playoff exit looked questionable at the time and looks really bad now. Final nail in Murray’s coffin IMO.

by bhlloy on Nov 22, 2011 10:02 PM PST up reply actions

I think the final nail in Murray’s coffin is the day he trades away one of Getzlaf or Perry for a pile of scraps. That’s a day I’m certainly not looking forward to, but it seems almost inevitable considering Murray’s transaction history.

I’m not sure if he needed a change of scenery. I think he just needed an off season to get back in shape and get the rust off. Can’t expect a guy to come back from a year off and be playing well unless your name is Crosby. I agree, I really like Beauchemin, but I think we overpaid. Unfortunately, I think your wrong about it being the, “final nail,” in Murray’s coffin. I think we may need a change, but I don’t see them firing him anytime soon.

You can’t say shit like that; you know I’ve dealt with depression in the past, right?!
