Your Friendly Tuesday Links Roundup: The Is Getzlaf's Captaincy Safe Edition?

Dude. Look what you did to Teemu. Not cool, man.

For now, it seems. I'd rather see Teemu Selanne or Saku Koivu with the C, but their days in Anaheim are numbered. George Parros, maybe? As several readers discussed in the Leafs recap thread, he appears to provide a level of emotional leadership that this team is sorely lacking.

OK Sorry I have to rant...

Regarding these “tweaks”. Over the past few years, when exactly has the numerous experiments with breaking up the top line worked? WHEN!?!?! Additionally, when have they not had to go right back to the regular line combos?

I don’t want to use the now cliched Einstein quote about insanity….well, you know it.

I would like to see major tweaking of the systems. IN FACT, I’m at the point where I’ll take losses so long as they are trying something new. And by new I mean NEW. Like not tried before. As in not something you do very often that NEVER works. INSANE.

I don’t remember any time that each of the big three were on different lines, Carlyle always keeps at least 2 of them together, but last year when Getzlaf got hurt, the top line played great without him and we won like 10 of 12 or something, there is an example just from last season.

I don’t have the link, but Carlyle said to the OCR that as long as he is HC, then Ryan Getzlaf is captain of the Ducks. So I guess we have to deal with it for now.

Parros for captain? Maybe a stretch, but I’d love to see him with an A on his sweater. Also to the honda center music people: please play this song upon his arrival back into the lineup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBShN8qT4lk

It's definitely a stretch

But I think that sometimes, the ‘heart and soul’ guys are better captains than the stars. The last few captains on my college’s hockey team have been gritty defensemen, not flashy forwards (our school is known for its run and gun offense). And relieving Getz of his C might allow him to be Getz again.

I think the only way Getzlaf loses the captaincy is if he relinquishes it himself. Carlyle gave him a vote of confidence yesterday.

I’m sure every team that’s not the Ducks are sniffing around.

I don’t know the Sabres organization very well, but I’m not sure that’s the team I want to deal with unless we are getting a pair of first round picks.

by Daniel AC on Nov 29, 2011 5:29 PM PST up reply actions

Gragnani, Adam, McNabb, Pick would be amazing.

Although there would need to be a salary like Stafford or Roy to offset Bobby’s $5.1M. But Brayden McNabb would be the best fit in the Ducks system.

I forgot they had Kassian…I do enjoy a nasty power forward.

McNabb is a beast, I like Adam’s game a lot as well. Sabres are definitely an interesting trading option.

They have a two headed monster in net in Ryan Miller and Jhonas Enroth! Either one of those guys would be great. Plust Tyler Myers!!! All 6’8" 227 lbs of him!

by CoachZ on Nov 30, 2011 10:04 AM PST up reply actions

Tyler Myers is probably really unlikely. But the fact that Zack Kassian wears #54 and is a hard-hitting power forward, who drops the gloves just gives me more indication that he’d be perfect here.

Hey Flyer fan, by all indications and speculation it seems to be true. I like what the Flyers have to offer. Any chance Coburn can be packed up with JVR or Schenn? We don’t need Bobrovsky.

No, no and No.

You might get Read, Zolnierczyk and Wellwood and maybe a Marshall

Really? So there’s aren’t any blue-chip prospects involved..

these are blue chip prospects. Your not getting JVR or Giroux or Coburn

Uhhh.. Matt Read is in the Front running for the Calder Trophy. Marshall is a Blue Chip D Prospect, Harry Z is a surprise rookie as well, Wellwood is a Blue Chip Forward Prospect.

Well, obviously not Giroux.

That guy is a monster.

But the Ducks need more players who can contribute right now than guys who we don’t even know can pan out in the future. Carlyle has a hard time developing talent, so it’s not like any of these prospects are a sure thing.

And still, those 3 guys sound pretty underwhelming when you compare them to a first line, power forward winger who already has been selected to participate in the Olympics. He also has quite a bit of playoff experience for a young guy.

It’s almost as if we offered you guys Rackell, Clark and Maroon for Giroux. It’s just not worth it.

Definitely.

I hope Bob doesn’t bite on that proposal. There are some far better ones out there.

So Luca Sbisa is an Italian born Swiss who plays a predominantly Canadian sport in America and now is apparently friends with the Germans.

He's fancy. He'll go glove.

But when did he join forces with the Romulans, Corellians or the Wookies on Kashyyyk ?

Well they speak German in switzerland you know :D

but thanks for adding the video in German, i allways love it when luca or jonas talk in German, especially Jonas can explain himself so much better in his native language :)

To be honest...

I’ve been talking to some other boards, and it seems like the best return is either from Buffalo or the Rangers. Each of those organizations have good depth at forward and defense that they could afford to give up and add another piece.

I’d want Girardi or McDonagh out of new york but I doubt the Rangers would part with them..or Staal.

by kvd123 on Nov 29, 2011 9:17 PM PST up reply actions

Those are the two guys I would want as well, but when I was talking to the guys at Blueshirt Banter, they were saying it’s not likely they would give them up.

Dylan McIlrath and Tim Erixon would be other alternatives, with McIlrath being my personal favourite (6’4, 212). So I think a deal that could be made around him would be beneficial to the Ducks.
