In the last gamethread, I noted that it didn't matter that the refs missed the stomp, because it would receive supplemental review by the NHL. And it would have. The argument that TSN made a big deal out of it (and so put some pressure on the NHL to respond to it) is specious. It was a stomp, and a stomp was going to receive supplemental review. They weren't just going to let it go.
The Ducks will do without Ryan for Games 3 and 4, and whether or not Ryan would be valuable to the top line, he might still have been valuable as a a threat on another line, putting pressure on Trotz, who has the last change at home.
That doesn't mean someone has to step up "for Ryan" i.e. in his stead, in his slot in the lineup. Plenty of players are capable of just stepping up and producing in his absence, though completely within their own roles. For example, what is Saku Koivu capable of during the playoffs. Well, this, actually:
Seems like it's worthy of a "History Will Be Made" video, but they probably canceled it when they realized Koivu was on the Ducks.
