Never a doubt in my mind.

Especially after Scott Niedermayer was interviewed by the news station here in Vancouver (for his BC Sports Hall of Fame induction) about Teemu, to which responded, “I think he’s coming back.”

Never a doubt.

Totally :)

Good news for the Ducks. Welcome back, Teemu!

I'm gonna call him "Ort" cuz he's never on.

Fuck yeah

So I am having lunch at a company event and I took a sneak peak at AC. It is kind of hard to explain to the company why I screamed outloud “Fuck yeah” in the middle of lunch. I dont think they bought that I really liked Togos.

I'm taking credit for this

It’s no accident my post had 8 reasons. :)

Hah! Seriously though, all along I envisioned doing 8 as a superstitous hope the more that number appeared on the blog, the better our chances of his return.

every year the best day of the offseason

Teemu onemoreyear Selanne :)

by Freakle on Sep 16, 2011 2:13 AM PDT reply actions

Great news!… Not only did we need his skill on the ice; but the players needed his optimism and leadership in the locker room, the fans needed his presence in the community, and hockey needed the finish flash for the game.

The 4 million he is getting paid is a considerable discount, he needs to be commended for that…. To put that into perspective: He was 8th in the league last year in points per game behind Crosby, Sedin, Sedin, St. Louis, Perry, Getzlaf, and Stamkos; the average salary of those players is 6.5 million dollars… Joel Ward and Brooks Laich were popular FA signings this offseason. Washington pays them 3 and 4.5 million dollars this year respectively. They combined for 3 less points than Selanne while playing 89 more games…. I could go on and on.

Thank you Teemu!

Salaries

Didn’t want to annoy people by starting a new post, so i’m going to add this here since its on topic…

I got excited so I started doing some math. I have the ducks spending 54.7-55.5 in cash as of right now. The varience is due to the fact that we dont know who is going to make the team. Players like- Devo, Holland, Etem, and Palmieri- are more expensive than players like- Bonino, Sexton, Belesky, Bell, Maroon, etc. Who makes the team will have an impact on our internal cap which we know to be 56.

I have Mcmillans salary locked in, along with the other 8 forwards we know to be on the team. I didn’t count Belesky as a lock, even tho he is on a one way contract. There are a lot of guys fighting for 3 forward positions… Is this how you guys see it?

by Fish06 on Sep 16, 2011 8:34 AM PDT reply actions

My math shows that with 10 F including Beleskey 8 D and 2 goalies we are at 53.35 million. leaving about 2.6 for 3-4 players. Players included are: Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Selanne, Koivu, Blake, Cogliano, McMillan, Beleskey, Parros, Lubo, Beauch, Lydman, Fowler, Sbisa, Foster, Brookbank, Hiller, Ellis. So yes it looks about right.
I think at this point Bonino will be our 4th line center. That puts at 54 mill, 2 under the cap for the remaining 2-3 players.

Selanne signs the contract with complete class,

while Doughty is holding out for a difference of more than DOUBLE of what an average American makes a year. Learn some humility young lad, it’ll do you well.

Athletes can’t be compared to “normal Americans”. Their labor is much more valuable than ours. If you don’t like how much athletes get paid, become a socialist. In the mean time, I would argue that they aren’t fairly compensated based on the revenue they bring in.

I love the life lessons you dole out… We can all learn something from you.

by Fish06 on Sep 17, 2011 9:05 AM PDT up reply actions

It’s pretty true. Of course, it takes critical thought to truly understand the many lessons I dole out.

by Daniel AC on Sep 17, 2011 6:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I realize that the labour of an athlete can’t be compared to a regular American, but it’s hard to feel sympathy for a guy wanting a difference of 200k. When I open up the Globe and Mail, or BBC every day and see people struggling, and then see this type of BS, it sickens me.

I consider myself to always be on the side of the labor. Unions are responsible for the creation of the middle class. Personally, I think an athlete should fight for his 200K if he feels that is the fair compensation for his labor. It’s unfortunate that we live in a world that doesn’t provide the privilege of fighting for wages to all laborers.
