Francois Beauchemin Signed to 3-Year Extension
The Ducks announced today that defenseman extraordinaire (and the guy that makes Mike Fisher weep at night) Francois Beauchemin has been signed to a three year contract extension. This extension comes on the heels of Beauch playing one of the best games of this season against Phoenix where he scored two goals. After a shaky start to the season, Beauch has become the most solid member of the D-core.
After allowing Beauch to walk in 2009, Bob Murray re-aquired Francois in a trade that sent Joffrey Lupul and Jake Gardiner to Toronto. Not that I'm not grateful to have Beauch re-up, but it stings a little that this all could have been avoided...

hei Daniel !
10,5 million over 3 years, 3,5 mil cap hit.
Please cheer me up by explaining to me once again why beauch was our best defender in the 07 playoffs.
How can you not think this is a good signing. I’ll admit it’s about .25 more than I was expecting and .5 more than I was hoping, but overall this is a good signing. He’s a veteran defender, he plays physical, he puts a few points up and provides fantastic leadership from the backend. Honestly, what’s not to like?
Can’t see Beauch with an “A”. Likely we’ll get “One More Year”, and then we have Perry (who plays a lot better with the “A” on his sweater) and Fowler/Sbisa ready to inherit the letters.
I know this is crazy, but I think maybe giving Perry and Beauchemin "A"s next year even if Koivu and Selanne return. I think it would be nice to let go and let the future take over.
I’m pretty firmly set in the Fowler and Sbisa fan club, but letter talk might be a little premature.

Fowler and Sbisa are not there yet
but in the future they would be great players to have an A

Just give Perry the damn C already. There I said it.
If you imagine a salt shaker in your hand, tilt your head back
and act like you're shaking salt into your mouth; you will taste salt if you concentrate hard enough.
Seriously? I know you hate Bobby and everything, but his post-game interviews and comments scream captain. Hardly to you ever see Getzlaf in post-game interviews, and when he does, he just uses cliches. Perry, he’s the best and everything, but he’s not the vocal leader type, he just keeps to himself. And I’m very against giving the C to your ‘best player’, a la Ovechkin, Marleau, Modano, Forsberg (Philly). I’d rather have an actual leader wearing the captaincy (Wendel Clark, Mike Keane, Brenden Morrow, Chris Pronger).
Since when is a good post game interview the sign of a great leader? Personally, I’ll take Perry leading by example to Bobby’s post game interviews. There’s more to being a leader than being a fan favorite.

that’s not my point.
he is a great guy, and it definitely does not hurt to have him around. But i don’t like that caphit. Sure i was expecting him getting something like that, but i think it’s too much.
I hope he playes on his recent level over the next 3 years, because i think we all know how bad beauch can play
i tend to agree with you. and im not a fan of his at all. but in this case i think the positives outweigh the negatives. we needed to keep him, and we probably had to slightly over pay for that. If something happens later on, its not an immoveable contract either.

No, but his limited no movement clause might. The cap hit isn’t bad. Let’s be real, this is a guy who’s playing a top pair game and getting less than 4 million to do that. Let’s say he doesn’t stay on the top pair. He’ll still be a top 4 guy making less than 4 million. You guys really need to stop putting me in a position where I need to defend a Bob Murray move.
What cap hit were you expecting? I was hoping for 3 or 3.25, but I can live with 3.5. This wasn’t getting done for less than 3 and there was probably someone who would have paid him 4 after Suter disappeared from the market. It’s short term and a manageable hit. It’s a win for us.
You guys really need to stop putting me in a position where I need to defend a Bob Murray move.
And what if that was the whole purpose of my post? DADADAAA playing theatrical music
Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. It’s a good deal, but that doesn’t mean I think we should keep Murray.

Nice little hometown discount from $3.8, but as Jen said I wonder if he would have taken that back in ’09?
All reports say that he wanted to stay here in Anaheim.

Wanting and actually doing are two completely different things.
by Kevin Riach on Jan 20, 2012 10:02 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah, he definitely would have taken this in ‘09 and we should have offered it to him. It was probably Murray’s biggest mistake in his tenure here.
Yeah it was and alot of his mistakes stem from this moment in time. Every bad move he has made seems to be a result of letting Frankie walk

Could have gotten more in the free agent market since there isn’t much available other than Suter and Carle. Good deal. Maybe we now move Lubo or Lydman at the deadline?
Agreed
I would love to see us move Lydman if possible. I really like Lubo, and think he symbolizes a certain type of Ducks player. In some ways he reminds of Paul Kariya. He’s smaller than most, but he never gives up, has a cannon, and is so clutch. I’d say move Lydman and sign a bottom pairing guy and top 4.
Lydman can get moved
Lubo goes down to 3 mil next year. I dont know if I want to move that contract.
by Newport Rebel on Jan 20, 2012 7:20 PM PST up reply actions
I like Lubos salary but moving him would depend on the return. Maybe he lands us Boston’s frost rounder. It could be a situation like Letang had in Pit. He couldn’t really thrive till Gonchar left. Maybe it will help Fowler go to the next step.
As for Lydman, I wonder how that affects other players on the team. We have 4 Finns now and I’m not sure how they would react yo having a countryman and friend traded.
by DavidBL on Jan 20, 2012 7:37 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
They’ll live. This isn’t moving Koivu or Selanne. Losing Lydman won’t affect the chemistry among the other Finns.
by Daniel AC on Jan 20, 2012 8:24 PM PST via mobile up reply actions
Yeah I think moving Hagman would screw it up more than Lydman. As long as Koivu or Selanne dont get moved, they will be ok.
by Newport Rebel on Jan 20, 2012 10:56 PM PST up reply actions
I wouldn’t worry to much about chemistry. They’ll be fine, all of those guys are veterans and professionals. On a side not did you know Letang had 101 PIMs last season??? I find that ridiculous for a player like him. How the hell do you rack up that many without fighting? Or being Corey Perry?
by Kevin Riach on Jan 20, 2012 10:01 PM PST up reply actions
Keep in mind Pittsburgh quickly replaced Gonchar with Michalek and Martin They already had Orpik and at the time Goligoski.
“but it stings a little that this all could have been avoided…”
Come on now your just baiting Daniel… to much money but waaaayyyyy better then losing him and letting Murry shop for Defenders again. I like it.
It’s not too much money. I think people are being a little delusional around here. This is probably market price or a shade under.
Have to agree with Daniel on this one

I have a bigger concern with the term
Than the money, but I agree. This was a good move. We can probably trade him before the third year if need be.
