World Championships start tomorrow, super early in the morning. I'll have a thread up, if you're all awake to watch the USA play live at 2:15AM. Here is the complete schedule of the early rounds. Representing the Ducks are Bobby Ryan, Cam Fowler, Kyle Palmieri, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Luca Sbisa. As announced earlier today, Getzlaf was named Captain for Team Canada. If you're wondering, Captain America is...Jack Johnson. We're doomed.
The Ducks re-signed left wing John Mitchell to a two-year, two-way deal. Also, now-former Duck Mathieu Carle has signed a deal with Dinamo Riga of the KHL. He, like Mitchell, spent a majority of the time with Syracuse in the AHL.
Series Record & Storyline: Marty 1 - Bryzzy 1. This series is going to come down to goaltending, not necessarily in the Pekka Rinne/Mike Smith kind of way. Can Martin Brodeur's old school style outlast Ilya Bryzgalov's moments of greatness (followed by total meltdowns)? Both are shaky. The team that wins will do so because their forwards can capitalize on those moments of weakness.
Series Record & Storyline: Are you 'effing serious 2 - WTF St. Louis 0. Just having to write about this makes me sick. The Kings are - deep breath - playing the best hockey of all the teams in the playoffs. For a group that couldn't score goals a majority of last season, that problem has been solved. To win the playoffs, a team must have outstanding goaltending, a Jiggy-esque effort, if you will. Jonathan Quick is providing that. Even our coach, Bruce Boudreau, believes in the Kings. That hurts my heart, but he just might be right.
