As some of you know (Jen), I had a casual dinner with Nic last night. I managed to sneak in a few questions that I'm sure you would all love to hear about.
1) Before heading out to wisconsin for the year, Temmu Selanne actually reached out to Nic. The two practiced together for the last three weeks Nic was in town and apparently they're close now. I love hearing that Temmu- for the millionth time- is a role model. I wonder if Temmu has been doing this for other prospects over the years as well.
2) Apparently the ducks organization is pushing Nic to go to school for two years and then sign a contract. He'll probably end up at the AHL level after that. For a kid that's just 18, he seems to know a lot about is future. I'm guessing that Murray has talked to him about it. Nic seems quite set on this idea and would want to finish his academic career later when the opportunity arises.
3) I was happiest to hear that Nic is extremely happy to be a part of the ducks organization. Even though he thought he had a chance of going in the first round, he was always hoping for the ducks. The ducks seemed to be the most interested team during the combine interviews. Before I told him that I was a diehard ducks fan, I asked him if he would have rather been on another team (like the kings or penguins). Right when I said the kings his face got sour. We have a real duck in our system.
I hope you guys found this enjoyable. If you ever have any questions feel free to tell me and I'll try my best to ask him.
