I think he hit everything but his mouth - Martin Rose
After Wednesday's movements, the Ducks have a 24 man roster. They must make at least one more cut before they leave for Vancouver.
With three days until the regular season, the Ducks are trimming their roster down to the final squad. Here are some of the moves made throughout the week.
-- Goalie Viktor Fasth was sent down to Norfolk to get some games on the North American ice under his belt.
-- With Fasth headed to the Ads, Frederik Andersen was called up to the Ducks to participate in Tuesday's scrimmage.
-- After being invited to Ducks training camp, forward Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond was signed to a one-year, two-way deal by the Ducks and assigned to Norfolk. Not sure why Bob Murray felt we needed this guy. He's a RW (of which we have plenty) and an enforcer. At the NHL level, the Ducks have forward/enforcer Brad 'Starburns' Staubitz. In Norfolk, they have forward/enforcer Jay Rosehill.
-- Goalie John Gibson was sent back to his junior team, the Kitchener Rangers (OHL). Gibson was a ' here's a present for your stellar work at WJC' invite to camp. There was no way he was going to make the roster, even the AHL one. He earned his trip to Anaheim.
-- Patrick Maroon heading back to Norfolk is no surprise. After Chris and I noticed his poor attitude and lack of effort on day one of camp, I'm surprised he lasted this long.
-- Also not surprised by Emerson Etem being sent back down. He hasn't grasped the AHL game, making him a very big liability at the NHL level. Plus, during camp, the spot on the fourth line wing was battled out between him and Devante Smith-Pelly. DSP had the advantage all along having played for Bruce Boudreau for a bit last season.
-- Goalie Jeff Deslauriers was also sent to Norfolk. He'll need to pass through waivers in order to get there. He's not directly backing up Hiller this year, that's going to be Fasth. Not a complete loss if Deslauriers is swiped off waivers.
-- Finally, Jordan Hendry beat out Admirals captain Nate Guenin for the last spot on the defense. Guenin will head back to Norfolk. I don't think he has to go through waivers...
