An update on #NHLDucks Teemu Selanne: He will return home to Orange County today to have oral surgery. Expected to return in two weeks.— Anaheim Ducks (@AnaheimDucks) October 30, 2013
The stick to the mouth Selanne took cost him four or five teeth and required 40 stitches in the mouth. Thanks, Luke Schenn.
For the Ducks, this means two weeks, give or take, without Selanne. Boudreau has already said that Dustin Penner or Rickard Rakell could draw in for Selanne. Many of you are excited to see Rakell play, but chances are Penner is the one checking back into the lineup.
More important to our other players: there is room on the roster for another bunch of games. Devante Smith-Pelly and Patrick Maroon both stand a chance to stay in the lineup with the Greatest Eight getting his mouth repaired. And a player like Emerson Etem has even more time to show his skills playing more minutes.
So while Selanne sitting is sad news, we have some young players who now have a chance to play well for the club. We get a chance to see the team of the future a bit quicker until the injured guys - Saku Koivu, Jakob Silfverberg, and now Selanne - are healthy enough to play.
