Norfolk Admirals/John Wright
The Ads struck first, but took five penalties and came up short on all seven of their power play chances, before the Connecticut Whale finished them off in 3-on-3 overtime play.
Final Score: Admirals 1, Whale 2 (Overtime)
First Period Recap: The Norfolk Admirals were determined to play a different game from Friday night. Their 11 shots in the first period was only one shy of their game total versus the WBS Penguins. After the Ads killed two penalties, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, an odd offensive weapon, put Norfolk up 1-0. Mat Clark and Sami Vatanen assisted. Just over three minutes later, the Whale tied the game up on a Logan Pyett power play goal. The period ended with Connecticut out shooting the Admirals 14-11.
Second Period Recap: The middle frame was basically a series of penalties with a couple shots in between. The Admirals did nothing with their three opportunities, something that is becoming more and more common, and killed both of their penalties against.
There were two fights, both kinda lame from what the radio sounded like. The first was between John Mitchell and Micheal Haley after Mitchell hit, former Admiral, Mike Vernace. Haley got a two minute instigator, five for fighting, and a ten minute misconduct for his efforts. Less than three minutes later John Kurtz and Dylan McIlrath dropped the gloves and felt shame for five minutes. The Admirals just edged the Whale with seven shots in the period to Connecticut's six.
Third Period Recap: The Admirals got to show off their power play ineptitude going 0-for-3 again and finished the night 0-for-7. Norfolk has gone 0-for-17 on the power play over their last four games. The shots were almost split down the middle with the Whale having a slight edge 11-9. No one could break the tie though and the game went to overtime.
Overtime Recap: In OT the ref decided to make the game a 3-on-3 ordeal, giving Rod Pelley and Kris Newbury matching roughing penalties. Less than 20 seconds later, the Whale scored on a controversial play where many Admirals fans, and the angry players, thought the ref missed a penalty that led to the goal. Either way, this was another one of those proverbial four point games and the Ads let it slip by. Instead of being five points behind Connecticut they are eight points back and seven out of a playoff spot.
The Good: PL3 is turning into an offense machine and is almost at a point per game ratio.
The Bad: The Admirals took five penalties and let the Whale score on one of them, stop it!
The Ugly: The Admirals had SEVEN freaking power play chances and did nothing with them, STOP IT!
Next Game: Sunday, February 17th in Bridgeport at 3:00pm ET
