Final Score: Norfolk 0, Providence 3
First Period Recap: The first 7-ish minutes of the game was the best hockey the Admirals played all night. They had two power plays and were cycling the puck well and getting some sweet scoring chances. However they couldn't put the puck behind Niklas Svedberg at all tonight. The Providence Bruins, AHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, went up 1-0 on a power play goal 16:17 into the period when Graham Mink scored his first of the night. The Admirals were outshot 12-5 and went 0 for 2 on the power play.
Second Period Recap: A Brayden Irwin penalty carried over from the first period helped Providence get a 2-0 lead just firty-six seconds into the frame. Mink got his second of the night, luckily he didn't get a hat trick. At the 8:07 mark Trent Whitfield put the Bruins up 3-0 on a short handed goal where the Admirals just couldn't do anything. Matt Bartkowski got his second helper of the night on this goal. Coach Trent Yawney had finally had enough of Igor Bobkov and sent in Frederik Andersen. I don't think Bobkov played bad I think the rest of the team did, they need to wake up. The shots were more even in this period with the Bruins out-shooting the Ads 10-9.
Third Period Recap: There was no scoring in the final period and the Admirals shot themselves in the foot when PL3 charged a guy and got a 5 minute major and a game misconduct just 6:50 in, The hit didn't look that bad to me, I thought it was more clean than dirty. Admirals fans finally got to see what a penalty kill was when Providence couldn't figure out Andersen for the entire 5 minutes, the Bruins took a too many men on the ice penalty in the middle of the major though. At the 16:56 mark Jordan Hendry took an interference penalty and that pretty much did it for the game. The Bruins out-shot the Admirals all three periods of the game.
The Good: Andersen stopped all 13 shots he faced.
The Bad: Our defensive pairings are all pretty useless right now.
The Ugly: The Admirals gave up 3 special teams goals on the night that Marty Wilford got inducted into the Admirals Hall of Fame. I am not 100% sure but I think Marty's area is special teams.
3rd Icehole: Sami Vatanen- He didn't have a terrible game but when he gets frustrated he tries to turn into a one man show and it leads to turnovers and him giving borderline late hits.
2nd Icehole: Devante Smith-Pelly- If this guy expects to get another call up to the Ducks he really needs to step his game up. No shots on goal and a minus-1.
1st Icehole: It is a tie between Jordan Hendry and Brandon McMillan. They were both on the ice for two goals and didn't have good games. McMillan did have 3 shots on goal though.
Next Game: Saturday, February 23rd at 7:15pm
