I SHOULDN'T HAVE GONE TO DEL TACO BEFORE THE GAME! - Jeff Gross
Yet again, the Ducks found themselves at the losing end of the game after a crappy first period. As this team has done all season, they tie the game, get scored on, tie the game and win it in OT.
Final Score: Ducks 4, Avs 3 (OT)
First Period Recap: Slow start for the Ducks. They end the period with a two-goal deficit, thanks to Cody McLeod and PA Parenteau. Oh - Cam Fowler's back, and once again, he's paired with Bryan Allen. Silver linings: Beauchemin's poke check and Getzlaf's takeaway. Jonas Hiller looks kind of rusty, which is troubling.
Second Period Recap: Much better. Thank you, Ducks. Andrew Cogliano and P.A. Parenteau have a bit of a kerfuffle on the first faceoff. Corey Perry begins the comeback, scoring off a feed from Ryan Getzlaf. Teemu Selanne later ties the game with a one-timer that goes past Jean-Sebastien Giguere's right shoulder. The tie doesn't last long, though. About a minute after Teemu scores, Colorado's John Mitchell retakes the lead for his team. The Ducks end the period outshooting the Avs, 21-10. Silver lining: Teemu's goal was his 250th power play goal. Yay for making history!
Third Period Recap: Cogliano skates with Perry and Getzlaf - an interesting choice. Getzlaf slides the puck inside Giguere's crease to get the game-tying goal. Matt Beleskey has a few near-misses at the end of regulation, but this game is destined to go into overtime.
Overtime: On a power play, Getzlaf takes the puck from Beauchemin, who passes it to Perry. Ducks win! (Nuff said).
Most Valuable Ducks
3rd MVD: Francois Beauchemin. Beauch had a career-high 4 assist game. He is everything that is good about this defense.
2nd MVD: Ryan Getzlaf. He fed the biscuit to Corey Perry (that's what we pay him to do), and has almost equaled his goal output from the entire 2011-12 season.
1st MVD: Corey Perry. Even when he struggled during regulation earlier this season, Perry was always clutch in shootouts. He brought that clutch-ness to overtime, but also began the comeback in regulation. I feel comfortable saying that he's gotten rid of the rust.
Next Game: @ LA, Monday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 pm.
