Norfolk Loses, Playoff Fate In Jeopardy

Courtesy of WrightCoast.com

Over the past three games the Admirals are 0-3 and have been outscored 12-2.

Final Score: Admirals 0, Devils 2

First Period Recap: The opening twenty minutes looked to be a promising sign for the Admirals. They out-shot Albany 12-9 and had two power plays. Unfortunately the power play is still terrible and most of those shots came from defensive players. At the 7:44 mark Harry Zolnierczyk and Mike Hoeffel dropped the gloves but both players only got a minor penalty.

Second Period Recap: The second period was more boring hockey by both teams, a tradition passed down from New Jersey to its farm team. The Admirals had two more power plays. Once again they did not capitalize against a bad team when they needed to and it cost them the game. Norfolk did kill off one penalty though. Devante Smith-Pelly took a cross checking minor 2:33 into the period. Jordan Hendry took a two minute minor for high sticking at the end of the twenty minutes, carrying over to the third. Norfolk out-shot the Devils 10-8.

Third Period Recap: The stalemate finally ended in the third period but it would take awhile. David Wohlburg scored the game winning goal with 2:33 left in the game. With just fifteen seconds left Mike Sislo scored an empty netter to put the game away. Norfolk killed both their penalties in the final period. The Admirals were out-shot 12-9.

**********

The Good: The Hershey Bears and the Connecticut Whale both lost Saturday night. Hershey has one game left in the season and the Whale are done now. All three teams are tied for 8th. If Hershey wins Sunday they are in, if the Admirals win and Hershey loses the Admirals are in. If both teams lose the Whale will be in.

The Bad: Only 6 players on the team had multiple shots in this game. Patrick Maroon and Charlie Sarault both had 5. Steven Whitney, Chris Wagner, Jordan Hendry, and Mat Clark all had 3.

The Ugly: The 12 players with 1 or less shots on goal tonight.

**********

3rd Icehole: Peter Holland - Two poor performances in a row, Anaheim can have him back. Of course he will score 50 goals against Providence since I typed this out.

2nd Icehole: Devante Smith-Pelly - After having almost a point per game performance in March he has just 3 points in 8 games and is a minus-6 in April.

1st Icehole: Special Teams Coach - I am not quite sure who is in charge of the power play but they just aren't good at coaching it. The Admirals are 0 for 11 in the last three games. Sami Vatanen was a big part of the power play but you can dumb it down and still succeed.

Next Game: Sunday, April 21st at 3:05pm ET @ Providence - FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME WITH PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS
