Back in May, Ryan Getzlaf was captaining Team Canada at the World Championships in Finland and Sweden. In what would be Canada's final game, Getzy was called for kneeing a Team Slovakia player with 2:30ish left in regulation, and he received a controversial 5-minute major. Slovakia would go on and win the game on the power play. I have no idea what took the IIHF so long to hand down a one-game ban for Getzlaf. Perhaps they wanted to be really, really, really sure of their decision. This suspension won't impact his NHL playing time. It's for international games only.
Saku Koivu ran with the Olympic torch today. He's a member of the IOC (I had no idea he was.)
Nashville matches the offer sheet to Weber, leaving Philadelphia desperate to make a splash to counter New York, which makes my dream of Bobby Ryan playing anywhere else but Anaheim much more of a reality. Discuss. (Haha, who am I kidding, nobody's gonna read this. I'm hilarious.)
From our friends at Lighthouse Hockey...who knew Lil' Lubo had it in him?
Oooh! We got an experienced center. AND he's 6'2", 210 lbs. Former Coyote/Avalanche/Shark, center (centre, if you're in Canada) Daniel Winnik has signed a two-year contract with the Ducks. BEGIN YOUR LINE COMBOS!
As per Darren Dreger's twitter, Shea Weber has signed a 14 year 100 million dollar offer sheet to play for the Philadelphia Flyers. The Preds have 7 days to match.
Our boring(ish) off-season continues. The Ducks have signed goaltender Marco Cousineau to a one-year contract. Honestly, I completely forgot about this guy. He played in Syracuse for three games, Elmira for one game, and Allen of the CHL the rest of the time. Apparently, the Ducks Doomsday Prep List includes goaltenders. We have about 2309428 (give-or-take) of them signed for the upcoming season.
Guess Bob is learning from previous mistakes and making his top draft picks signed early, regardless if Lindholm returns to Rogle.
