In honor of the upcoming NHL All-Star Game in Ottawa, we're running a contest that will give the winner four tickets to the Ducks' Skills Showdown on Saturday, February 4. This will be the second year the Ducks have run the Skills Showdown, and if you've never been before, I highly recommend it. Not only is it a great way to see the guys have some fun and show some personality, but it's also a great opportunity to get a different perspective on the game (assuming you're not regularly able to sit on the glass for games).

The Contest

This contest is only open to all readers (sorry editors) who can commit to attending the Skills Showdown at Honda Center on Saturday, February 4. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and a practice/State of the Franchise begins at 10, with the actual competition beginning at 11.

To qualify, post your predictions for the questions below by no later than 10 p.m. (PST) on January 20. The poster with the most points will win the tickets. In the event of a tie, we'll give the tickets the person that gave the correct or closest to correct answer to Question 3.

1) Who will be the first round pick for each team? (Three points per correct answer)

2) Excluding the captains, who will be the first two forwards, defensemen, and goaltenders drafted - as a whole, not per team? (Two points per correct answer)

3) Who will be the last player drafted? (Five points for correct answer)

A perfect score would be 23 total points. If you get anywhere close to that, you should give up your inside sources :)

The winning contestant will receive their tickets by mail.

The first day of November brings about a glorious time of year known simply as "Movember". Men around the world grow mustaches to raise awareness (and money) for cancer research and charities. I'm sure that in one way or another, we've all had someone around us that has been touched by cancer. For me, it's my dad. He beat colon cancer 25 years ago after experimental treatment at the Mayo Clinic saved his life. The money raised from Movember will go towards those life saving research and treatments.

This will be the Ducks second year officially participating in Movember. If you don't remember last year, check out the Ducks slide show of some beautiful (??) mustached men.

There were only a handful of participants in last year's contest, but word on the street is that everyone on the Ducks roster - with the exception of Jonas Hiller and his sweet mask - will be growing a mustache. The boys kick things off tonight in Washington DC at The Art of Shaving. Everyone, including George Parros, will be clean shaven for tomorrow night's game versus the Capitals. (For those of you in the DC area, you can see the details here - send us pictures if you go!)

I think this is an awesome cause, so I'm going to have a little contest of our own. Here are the easiest contest rules on the planet:

• By 11:59 pm (PST) on Tuesday, November 1st, you must email me a picture of your clean shaven face to AnaheimCalling [at] gmail [dot] com (or click the little envelope next to my name below.)
  
• On November 30th, by 11:59 pm (PST) email me another picture displaying the gorgeous mustache you've grown over the past 30 days
  
• Since SK, Kristen, Alex (our Captain Crunch) and I can't participate (well, we could, but that's kind of gross), we'll choose the winner from the participants that sent in both pictures.

I woke up this morning thinking to myself, you know what would be great? An update to the SBN iPhone app. Somebody upstairs was listening to me because I got my wish.

I know what you're saying. "Jen, aside from the color at the top, what's different about said iPhone update?" I'm glad you asked random blog reader. Here are a couple highlights:

• At the top, you can see they've added the ability to view the different Fan Posts we have on the site. Even you - yes you - could be featured in the app simply by posting a Ducks related Fan Post
• When clicking on a story in the Blog Post section and then clicking on the comments tab at the bottom, you'll see a plethora of exciting advancements in mobile blog viewing
• Now you're able to see which comments you have and haven't read! Sick of reading about Robby's journey to get a lock of hair from Bobby Ryan or Daniel's journey to become the youngest old man screaming at kids to get off his lawn? Now you can move past the comments you've already read, straight on to the new ones.
• Don't like reading things all together and have some weird need to clear the new comments? Now you can mark all comments as read!

I don't want to spoil the rest of the new items so you'll have to download the app to find out. (And Android users, quit yer bitchin, they're working on an app for you. But really, just get an iPhone, you weirdo.)

Today the NHL released the national television schedule for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. For us American viewers the Ducks will be shown on Versus/NBC Sports six times and the NHL Network two times. Even with flex scheduling (like the NFL on NBC has at the end of the season), the team will not be shown on NHL on NBC. A lot of it has to do with time zones. The Ducks aren't going to draw a big home crowd at 10am on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I'm not complaining about that last part, seeing as the Ducks received ONE game on Versus last season and it was blacked-out in Orange County.

Before the NHL realizes what it has done by airing eight Ducks games on the national schedule, lets take a look at the matches deemed worthy enough by the NHL for the national audience - snarky commentary included.
