Back in May, Ryan Getzlaf was captaining Team Canada at the World Championships in Finland and Sweden.
In what would be Canada's final game, Getzy was called for kneeing a Team Slovakia player with 2:30ish left in regulation, and he received a controversial 5-minute major. Slovakia would go on and win the game on the power play.
I have no idea what took the IIHF so long to hand down a one-game ban for Getzlaf. Perhaps they wanted to be really, really, really sure of their decision. This suspension won't impact his NHL playing time. It's for international games only.
