DANIEL:
The Ducks put up little resistance as they watched the Kings destroy their 5 game winning streak. Jonas Hiller didn't last the game, and the offensive effort was simply not there. The Ducks didn't undo all the progress of the five game winning streak, but by losing to the 8th seeded Kings, they missed an opportunity to significantly crash into the playoff party. Instead, they are now 6 points back and still looking up from 12th place in the conference.
Just to add injury to insult, Saku Koivu went down with a lower body injury. There's no official word on the extent of Koivu's injury or how long it will keep him sidelined, but this news comes on the heels of the fact that Selanne will be sidelined another 2-6 weeks with a broken jaw, after missing 4 weeks with a broken hand. The injury bug has been rough with the Ducks of late; not that they'll be receiving any sympathy.
This setback will leave the Ducks with more questions than answers. Can Hiller really handle the workload of a number 1 netminder? Can someone center the second line efficiently if Koivu misses major time? Will the teams ahead of them lose enough for them to sneak into the playoffs? Nothing is known for sure, but all those questions will be answered in one way or another as the Ducks toil through the rest of the season.
