Hiller was screened well on the first two goals, a back and forth tic-tac-toe between Franzen and Filppula and a hard wrist shot from Mike Modano. In the second period, the netminder would give up a score on a soft tip and then a crashing goal by Dan Cleary that went to the War Room in Toronto for confirmation.
In a dark spot for the Anaheim defense, Andy Sutton left the game in the second period and did not return. In a bright spot for the Anaheim defense, Cam Fowler played an impressive 21:20 against Red Wings forwards, including an incredibly poised 2:26 clearing the puck on the penalty kill, and was not on the ice for any of Detroit's four goals.
