Open Gameday Recap Thread Islanders @ Ducks

ARTHUR:
In the battle of the winning streak versus the losing streak, Anaheim picked up its fifth consecutive W while the Isles tallied their 8th consecutive loss, as a 3rd period goal from Saku Koivu was enough to seal the victory for the Ducks.

Anaheim was sluggish on the tail end of back to backs and didn't even register as shot on goal until Saku Koivu put a shorthanded bid on net with less than two minutes left to play in the 1st period.  And it would be Koivu again in the 3rd period as the Ducks came into the Islanders zone on the rush and a feed from Cam Fowler on the wing was hammered past goaltender Dwayne Roloson.  Anaheim netminder Curtis McElhinney kept the home team in the game by saving all 27 of New York's shots in what was the first shutout of his NHL career.
