Ducks Take Defenseman Brian Cooper of USHL With 127th Pick

Justin's Take:

The Ducks didn't find it satisfying enough to draft one small guy and one tough guy in Round Four, so they embody both picks into their Round Five selection! Cooper comes from the Fargo Force of the USHL, and he'll described as, well, just check out the scouting report below.

From Reel Hockey Scouting:

True competitor with defensive smarts, an offensive upside and taste for the physical aspect of the game.

Extraordinary skater with fluid agility. Well balanced and pivots nicely. Powerful first steps that help him lead the charge or catch the play. Nimble and quick footwork.

Composed and calculative. Plays a strong, tough game in his own zone and despite his size, finds a way to neutralize the play more often than not. Persistent defender that will use all at his disposal.

Possesses a great deal of offensive jump and can instigate offense off the transition that he has headed up. Solid touch with the puck that allows him to give/receive passes well. Patrols atop the offensive blue-line confidently and recognizes when to spring into action. Unleashes a hearty shot.

Committed to University of Nebraska – Omaha. Will need to amass more overall strength but has all the tools to become a Mid-pairing, physical two-way defenseman in the NHL.
